**Job Summary**
This position represents the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRC) in providing support to the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Centre (CAF TC) multi-disciplinary team in delivering standardized care, service, and support to families of CAF personnel coping with illness, injury and/or special needs, or who have died while serving. The Family Liaison Officer reports to the MFRC Executive Director and is responsive to the CAF Transition Centre Officer Commanding.
This position is responsible for the development, implementation and service delivery of support services/programs and crisis intervention to families of CAF personnel coping with illness, injury, and/or a special need, or to families of fallen CAF members. This includes initial and continued contact with families, assessment, and referral; short term individual, couple and/or family crisis intervention; group work; networking with community resources/teams; and emergency response to critical incidents. In addition, the position also tailors the suite of Military Family Service Program (MFSP) services for families of Canadian Armed Forces members and Veterans accessing psychosocial and mental health services through the MFRC.

**Client Services**:
- Provide intake/assessment services with family members to determine their situation and need for assistance.
- Offer prompt intervention assistance to families in crisis or imminent crisis.
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies/organizations.
- Provide consultative/solution-focused counseling services to clients requiring short-term crisis support.
- Provide follow-up with families to ensure referrals have been utilized and are meeting the
- family’s needs and provide ongoing support to families as required.
- Outreach and support to families in the surrounding area.
- Assist families in their navigation of military/civilian systems to access relevant programs and services.
- Maintain legal and standardized documentation on clients.
- Assist families with accessing specialized resources and funding supports.
- Referral for grief counselling to families experiencing loss.
**Networking**:
- Maintain an information-sharing network with MFRC programs, military resources (social workers, padres, etc.), and community resources, for the purpose of providing clients with a variety of information and support to address their needs.
- Participate in the Family Crisis Team (FCT), and other relevant helping professional committees.
- Participate in Designated Assistant trainings.
- Establish a working relationship with other resource professionals (Veterans Affairs, Case Management, OSSIS, etc.) and community resources who provide or may provide services to CAF members and their families.
- Identify, assess, and address gaps in the provision of services and benefits to CAF members and their families, in collaboration and cooperation with other members of the MFRC and CAF TC staff.
- Keep current on trends and initiatives, and policies in the field of support for families; transfer that knowledge into daily practices/initiatives.
- Attend all applicable staff and case management meetings held by CAF TC and MFRC multi
- disciplinary teams.
- Foster the development and maintenance of family peer support networks and provide networking opportunities for families.
**Program Development/Evaluation**:
- Design and implementation of prevention, education and awareness sessions and programs that focus on interpersonal relationships, grief/loss, family violence, general well-being, impact of injury and family lifestyle stressors.
- Coordinate and facilitate self-help groups, as required, that will assist families coping with grief, separation, single parenting, casualty support, lifestyle transitions, injury/illness, special needs, etc.
- Evaluate services, both formally and informally, on an ongoing basis in a manner which is compatible with the MFRC overall evaluation plan.
- Use appropriate evaluation tools to determine the effectiveness of programs/services offered.
- Identify, assesses and address gaps in the program planning and development.
**Administrative**:
- Develop and maintain confidential files on families assisted/contacted.
- Adhere to the MFSP/MFRC policies/procedures and the Privacy Code for MFSP.
- Ensure applicable federal/provincial policies and procedures are adhered to.
