**OVERVIEW**

Reporting to the Director, Medical Education, the Manager, Medical Education, supports the Director and Associate Directors through a role of planning, development and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate education at Michael Garron Hospital(MGH), Toronto East Health Network (TEHN). The Manager will integrate medical learner education within the organization advancing and integrating a culture of education at TEHN by ensuring educational endeavours align with the organization’s strategic plan. The Manager will oversee the development, implementation, management and evaluation of projects to operationalize the hospital’s strategic initiatives related to education. The Manager will have a primary role in the development of medical learner education and training within the organization, ensuring that training is delivered within the scope of policies and procedures established by the University of Toronto (UofT), Faculty of Medicine and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario(CPSO). The Manager will oversee the high-quality education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners; registration, onboarding, with continuous development and validation to build and support the transition from medical student to resident physician to staff physician.

The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Medical Education Office operations relating to medical education. The Manager’s responsibilities include the supervision and assessment of staff within the Medical Education Office while promoting a collegial team-based environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently. The Manager has autonomous responsibility for the operational management of the Medical Education administration team and resources, and complete management of the team’s staff. The Manager will assume overall responsibility for project development /management to ensure the implementation and delivery of effective and efficient programs thatsupport service excellence as well as exemplary medical learner and faculty centered support and education.

**EDUCATION**
- Master’s degree in Education, Health Care, Curriculum/Instruction or relevant field. Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of Master’s degree.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Leadership and Management:

- Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the Medical Education Office administrative team, resources, and operations.
- Supervise and assess staff within the Medical Education Office, fostering a collegial teamwork environment.
- Monitor and maintain health and safety within the department, ensuring that all work carried out is of a high standard.
- Assume overall responsibility for project development and management to ensure effective and efficient programsthat support service safety and excellence, medical learner support, and education.
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive information to act on and communicate to others with considerable tact and caution. Make decisions, consult, challenge ideas, influence, persuade, motivate, and negotiate in situations often requiring to be managed urgently.
- Manage and monitor the Medical Education budget to ensure expenditures align with service needs and financial targets. Make recommendations on the strategic management of relevant budgets.
- Prepare and maintain complex financial reports related to education; teacher/physician payments; faculty appointmentsincluding the creation and distribution of the T-IME Clinician-Teacher quarterly funding payments, Education Lead Physician Stipend Reports, ICE Clinical Skills tutor payments, as well as Simulation training and ACLS Course training payments.
- Act as the authorized signatory for purchases required for use in Medical Education. Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and safe use of all equipment within the department.

Academic Program Management:

- Plan, organize, coordinate, and liaise with a wide range of professionals to deliver high quality, complex training programs, involving liaison with presenters, drafting programs with relevant content, recruiting speakers (physicians and staff), obtaining evaluations and implementing changes based on feedback.
- Work with diverse populations of traditional and non-traditional medical learners, supervise the complex daily operations of the medical school and residency training programs while simultaneously meeting critical deadlines.
- Engage in scholarly activity related to education such as presentations, teaching and/or research and providingsupport to individuals engaged in scholarly activities.
- Disseminate important, relevant information to all medical staff throughout the organization to ensure there is joined-up, organization-wide coverage.
