Within this context** the Employee Health Specialist **works within an integrated team environment to support overall employee health and wellbeing. The Employee Health Specialist expertly delivers case management and consultation services in the areas of early & safe return to work, self-insured medical leave programs, long term disability, workplace accommodations, occupational injury/illness (WSIB), mental health, and overall employee health and wellbeing.

**About the position**
- We are seeking an Employee Health Specialist to join McMaster University’s Human Resources Team. The specialist provides case management_**_ _**_of health and wellbeing related employment matters across a diverse employee population and provides expert professional guidance to leaders._

**The Employee Health Specialist **will be accountable for:

- Providing expert guidance and advice relating to complex workplace accommodations
- Facilitating return to work for non-occupational and occupation disability leaves
- Coaching leaders on complex case files, in support of overall employee health and wellbeing
- Advising and guiding on return to work and suitability of modified work
- Managing and facilitating WSIB processes
- Taking strategic and proactive measures to contain costs related to leaves, consistent with best practices in disability management and return to work principles
- Facilitating difficult and sensitive conversations with tact and diplomacy, identifying and resolving conflicts to best support employee health in the workplace
- Collaborating and strategizing with leaders and HR team members regarding complex employee health matters
- Maintaining records and gathering metrics for reporting purposes
- Ensuring advice, guidance, and claims management are compliant with Collective Agreements and employment legislation.
- Building positive and dynamic relationships with employees, key stakeholders, union representatives and partners
- Contributing to operational excellence and a positive employee experience
- Supporting leaders and employees through highly sensitive matters relating to health and wellbeing
- Advising and guiding with empathy, compassion, professionalism and diplomacy
- Coaching and supporting leaders through processes and decision making
- Occasionally developing and delivering training or presentations on topics relating to employee health & wellbeing

**What we are looking for**
- Actively promoting and contributing to a culture that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- Promoting and supporting an Employee Mental Health Strategy
- Post - Secondary Education or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (For Example: Human Resource Management, Certified Disability Management Designation)
- Certified Disability Management Professional Designation (CDMP) or courses in claims adjudication or disability claims management preferred
- CHRL designation and related experience working at a post-secondary institution may be considered assets
