Employee Relations Advisor

New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults and Families is a non-profit community-based organization that provides a diverse range of supports to individuals in a variety of settings. The organization’s mission is to provide responsive and individualized services that foster the hopes and dreams of people and their communities. Throughout the organization, staff and leadership work in many fields and in variety of shifts to deliver quality service and supports.
Reporting to the Manager of the Employee Experience team, the **Employee Relations Advisor** is the liaison between staff and management on human resource issues. Responsible for providing advisory services, support, and direction as needed to management and staff on human resources matters, taking into consideration service area and individual need; and balancing those with the organization’s responsibilities. This position advises management and staff on how to resolve employment-related concerns and performance management issues in the day-to-day, working on preventive rather than reactive measures. This position also directly supervises a Employee Experience Administrator.
**Areas of human resources that are core to this position include**:
- Employee Relations - investigation and workplace complaints, full-cycle performance management, reasonable accommodation.
- Talent Management - support the development of learning and development plans, talent management assessments and planning.
- Employee Engagement - delivery of employee engagement initiatives, fostering a positive work environment.
- Organizational Support - support program areas in organizational design, job descriptions, team building and coaching.
- Inclusion & Diversity - implement practices which support an inclusive and collaborative work culture.
- Benefits & Leave Management - management of disability leaves, promote health & wellness benefits
- Management Support - leadership development, policy development and compliance, conflict resolution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing a broad range of Human Resource services in an advisory capacity, including employee relations, talent management, and benefits administration.
- Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Human Resource Management (or a related field) from a recognized post-secondary institution. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, acts, regulations and practices affecting human resource activities.
- A demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures and traditions.
- Excellent customer service abilities; sensitivity to customer issues and understanding the importance of diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Proven ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, including active listening skills.
- Previous supervisory experience and the ability to work in partnership with the HR team, while maintaining the ability to work independently in an organized and confidential manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and HR systems (HRIS/HRMS).
- _Fluency in American Sign Language is considered an asset._
The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $33.90 to $42.71 per hour dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package, which includes Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan is provided for this permanent position.
