**JOB SUMMARY**
Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, implementing and overseeing the effective operations of the Quality Assurance Department and Sanitation Department. The Quality Assurance Manager establishes and enforces programs which result in safe and quality product that conform to Canadian Government regulations, BRC Global Food Safety Standard, Tasty Selections standards, and customer requirements. The position shall be responsible for the ongoing food safety and quality management system to create an atmosphere of quality and safety throughout the plant’s operation.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Create, implement, evaluate, modify and enforce food safety programs, Company’s Policies and Procedures
- Leads all aspects of BRC quality audits, including preparation and interaction with the auditor and completion of resulting NCRs
- Manage internal audits and regulatory inspections
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including CFIA, FDA etc.
- Liaise with other members of the Tasty Selections Team, Customers, and Suppliers, regarding issues which affect product or service quality
- Plan and execute schedules for the QA Department (e.g. personnel hours and duties, product & environmental sampling)
- Provide training on GMP, HACCP, Allergen and Metal Detector to all employees
- Implement management of change and ensure HACCP plan is effective and updated regularly
- Conduct regular audits of the BRC system and initiate corrective actions as needed
- Oversee the testing and inspection of raw materials, in-process products and finished goods to ensure that they meet quality and safety standards as per customers specifications
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to product quality and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrent of issue
- Manages the sanitation and environmental monitoring program
- Provide technical support to production and R&D on product quality, safety and on product development as required
- Utilize data and statistical analysis to monitor and improve quality standards
- Identify areas for improvement in the manufacturing process and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in plant cross-functional projects, and assist in developing policies, procedures, and work instructions as required
- Champion development and maintenance of a strong food safety culture throughout the business by using training techniques and personal development practices assuring Food Safety and Quality, along with Human Safety
**Health and Safety**
- Monitor, enforce and continually improve health and safety in the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements
- Ensure staff are trained and certified as required
- Make available and communicated training and information in support of the Health and Safety program and legislative requirements
- Support and assist in accident investigation, corrective measure implementation
**Leadership**
- Lead, mentor and develop and QA team, show leadership and ensure good morale; exemplify and encourage others to work in a way that promotes the company culture and its values of cooperation, teamwork, creative thinking and responsibility.
- Conduction regular performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities for team members
- Lead the hiring and training of QA team member
**Other**
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
- This position also has a dotted line report to the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Redstone Food Group
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Undergraduate degree in Food Science/ related field or equivalent combination of academic and professional experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Food Quality Assurance preferably in the bakery, with in depth knowledge of Quality Systems, HACCP, HARPC, BRC, SFCR and FSMA (PCQI)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills
- Demonstrable proficiency in all modules of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills
- Excellent organization, multi-tasking and time management skills
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Able to stand for long periods of time at production equipment and walk throughout plant to monitor various departments throughout each shift.
