- Dalhousie University School of Social Work’s faculty, students, and alumni share a common objective: to embrace a critical and anti-oppressive approach to social work practice that includes an emphasis on social policy, professional values, theoretical perspectives, and practice methods. Reporting to the Director, School of Social Work, with guidance and support from members of the Africentric Cohort Advisory Committee, the Coordinator will provide leadership and coordination in the delivery of the BSW Africentric Cohort program, which is being launched within the School of Social Work as a three year pilot. This position will work closely with the Dalhousie School of Social Work faculty and staff, the Faculty of Health, School Advisory Committees, as well as African Nova Scotian and African descent education and social work community groups to integrate and align programming.**Key Responsibilities**
- Responsible for the creation of a plan that sets out a timeline for the initial year of the BSW Africentric Cohort. The plan will take into account management of program offerings, scheduling and the availability of wrap-around supports.
- Advise prospective students on admissions requirements, advise current students on registration and program requirements, and provide information or referrals to appropriate services and resources.
- Provide insight on matters related to students of African Descent for members of faculty admission committees, the Registrar’s Office, selection committees and support staff.
- Ensure Cohort participants have access to relevant Dalhousie resources, such as the Black Student Advising Centre, for matters relating to students of African descent and their transition to university life, including mentorship and peer support.
- In collaboration with relevant committees in the School of Social Work and Faculty of Health, develop and implement an evaluation framework for the BSW Africentric Cohort.
- Engage with internal and external partners to promote the program within African Nova Scotian communities and local communities connected to the African diaspora.

**Note**

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in social work or a related degree in the social or health sciences, plus three to five years’ experience working with students of African descent and African Nova Scotian communities (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Knowledge of the African Nova Scotian and African descent experience, issues and challenges of concern is a requirement of this role, specifically as they related to social areas such as health, education, justice and other institutional systems.
- The ability to lead groups, work as part of a team, prioritize work and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, problem-solving skills, proactiveness and ability to work independently.
