Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, $88,792 -$110,990 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Specialist, Geographic Information Systems - Hybrid

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator's (AER's) mandate has expanded to include new areas of resource development, including minerals. This expansion is part of the Alberta government's economic recovery plan to diversify the economy and accelerate growth in new and emerging sectors. As the Specialist, Geographic Information Systems, you will join the AER’s Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) branch and play a critical role in the Emerging Resources team’s efforts to visualize and disseminate geospatial data to better understand and characterize Alberta's mineral resource potential.

You will be responsible for the development and dissemination of data into various geographic information systems (GIS) formats to provide timely access of geoscience information to all Albertans, primarily in the field of mineral resources. Your primary tasks will include supporting the creation and dissemination of static PDF maps, interactive online maps, models, and diverse geospatial datasets to the AGS website or using ESRI’s online mapping platforms (ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Portal environments). You will enjoy working in a multicultural, multidisciplinary, dynamic environment, simultaneously progressing large projects while supporting short term needs of the Mineral Mapping Program’s project groups.

What your day-to-day will look like:

- Create efficient, readable, and maintainable GIS solutions to support AGS project goals or enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Review and edit metadata for GIS data to ensure spatial information is captured, stored, and displayed correctly for publication to our website.
- Provide on-the-fly GIS support to teams developing fieldwork plans, performing fieldwork, and managing data previously collected in the field.

What we’re looking for in you:

- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, GIS, geography, engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years experience in industry, academia or government GIS work experience.
- Experience with spatial data analysis and statistical geoprocessing tools.
- Highly proficient with Esri products.
- Time management skills with capacity to reprioritize as needed.
