Community Events Coordinator

**Job Duties**:

- Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating community events for the City of Winkler such as Christmas, Canada Day and Concerts in the Park.
- Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the annual Winkler Harvest Festival, as well as Chair the volunteer committee.
- Manage the PW Enns Concert Hall including promoting City events and rentals, booking talent, coordinating volunteers, and managing day-to-day operations of the facility.
- Promote, schedule, and host events at the Bernhard Thiessen Hall and Fieldhouse inside the Meridian Exhibition Centre
- Build good relationships with volunteers, renters, bands, etc., and partners with Community Groups
- Select, train, and oversee the operations of the event volunteers and staff.
- Ensure the safety of all participants, staff and volunteers through responsible supervision and planning.
- Research new events and tourism initiatives
- Create and submit to the Director of Community Services, an annual events and tourism plan for the City of Winkler

**Requirements**:

- Diploma, degree, or experience in areas of event management, marketing, business and/or communication is an asset, but not required.
- Experience in music and event planning whether through previous employment or volunteering is an asset.
- Grade 12 education required
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Must submit a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector as well as child and adult abuse check.

**Skills Needed**:

- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
- Intermediate computer skills are required with a knowledge of Microsoft programs.
- Works effectively with mínimal supervision but also works well with a team
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively with all age groups of the public.
- Ability to work calmly in a busy environment and be able to work a well-balanced flex-time schedule.
- Willing to seek out recruitment of sponsors, volunteers, talent, and contract workers that may be needed for effective event execution.
- Must be willing to take initiative and be comfortable making decisions within the scope of their job expectations

**Job Details**:

- Full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position with some evenings and weekends required
- Full benefits package and Municipal Pension Program
- This position works in out of the Meridian Exhibition Centre
