**Position title**:Children’s Program Leader**

**Type**: Part Time, term contract

**Schedule**: Spring/fall/winter session hours 3:15pm-5:45pm, Monday to Thursday (10hrs/wk)

Summer hours 9:30-5pm Monday to Thursday (30hours/wk)

**Compensation**: $17-$23 per hour

**Benefits**: 4% in lieu of vacation

**Position start date**: Immediately for 2023

**Reports to**: Child/Youth Program Supervisor

**About Banff Avenue Community House (BACH)**:
Banff Avenue Community House is a non-profit organization situated in the heart of a low-income social housing neighbourhood in South-East Ottawa. The Community House’s overarching goal is to offer a safe, inclusive space where individuals, children/youth and families can gather, connect, and access a variety of supportive programs and services that are beneficial to the community in which we serve.

**Job Summary**:
The Community Program Leaders are enthusiastic about working with children and eager to create positive experiences for community participants. They are team players, and ready to support the overall well-being of participants to reach their full potential and personal goals. The main role as a Community Program Leader is to create fun, educational, safe, and inclusive activities for children 6-12 years of age. As a Leader, you are responsible for appropriate program planning and meeting the requirements and program objectives set by the Community House. Using creativity and available materials to facilitate healthy living strategies, educational supports, community connections, and recreational learning opportunities during critical hours

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide a safe, fun, and supportive environment for local students aged 6-12 year olds
- Facilitate learning opportunities and team building activities for marginalized children during the school year and in summer camp
- Provide engaging, educational STEM activities that enhance social, literacy, numeracy, and language skills through exercises and lessons geared specifically to individual needs.
- Promote healthy and active living
- Connect children with opportunities and workshops that are beneficial to them
- Provide exceptional leadership by demonstrating the ability to organize an engaging and empowering program.
- Outreach and engage with neighbours in the community to be responsive to any emergent needs.
- Research, plan, and implement age appropriate, inclusive, and stimulating programming
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Community House and the community to support an holistic approach to supporting vulnerable children and their families.
- Build strong connections with parents and neighbours through regular outreach, promotions, and communications
- Assist the Team with tracking data and other reporting requirements for effective impact reporting
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Staff Team.

**Requirements**:

- Currently enrolled in post-secondary school in Child and Youth Studies, Social Justice, Education and/or Recreation, Social Work, or an equivalent program
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience leading programs will be considered.
- Must enjoy working with children and be willing to learn the various protective factors in supporting children’s overall well being
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be available to work the proposed after and out of school hours
- Certified or willing to obtain certification in Standard First-Aid/CPR
- Have or willing to obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
- Knowledge and understanding of issues of poverty, discrimination, and other societal barriers in racialized communities
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and leadership abilities
- Have excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
- Have a strong knowledge of child developmental stages for age-appropriate activities.
- Bilingualism will be considered an asset; French, Arabic, Somali, Creole, or other languages commonly spoken among Black communities in Ottawa
