**Position**:Quality Control Technician - Full Time Hourly - Entry Level (Junior)
**Location**:1 Northrup Crescent, St. Catharines’s, ON L2M 7M3
**Job Summary**: An incredible opportunity to bring your knowledge and experience to a growing and dynamic company. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the scope of this position is to ensure food quality and safety standards are followed during the production process, and that the raw ingredient and finished products are at the highest standard.
**Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following**:
- Conduct daily physical and chemical testing of production retain samples, and record results
- Perform pre-operation and post-operation checks
- Ensure GMP are being followed by all production staff
- Review and sign off on all records prior to the production of each batch
- Prepare daily samples of finished products for lab test submission
- Collect water samples as required for testing
- Perform weekly/monthly/annual swabbing of the facility
- Conduct monthly raw ingredient testing, and prepare sample for lab submission
- Communicate and collaborate with external laboratories
- Prepare daily labels required for production using LabelView
- Prepare Certification of Analysis (COA) as required
- Inspect daily receiving record to ensure COA of all raw ingredients received are available and within specified ranges
- Assist with investigation of customer complaints, and implement corrective action where necessary
- Member of the SQF Team, assist with maintenance and verification of SQF records and documents
- Assist with SQF, Halal, Kosher, customer, and any other audits as required
- Provide backup and support for all other food quality/safety functions as required
- Perform other QA/QC functions as directed by Quality Assurance Manager
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
- Well organized, with strong time-management and prioritization skills
- Self-motivated, able to work with mínimal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Willingness to go beyond expectations, learn new skills and take on new challenges and responsibilities
- Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, LabelView and understanding of food safety, and allergens is an asset
**Education and Experience**:
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Nutrition, Microbiology, or another relevant discipline preferred
- 0 - 2 years experience in food manufacturing or similar industry
**Work Environment**:
- Would be required to work on site at our manufacturing plant. Combination of seated computer work in the office, standing or seated lab work, and standing/walking in manufacturing area. Hours**: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (overtime required)
- We are a dry spice blending facility, this creates a distinct aroma due to the spices we handle (ex: garlic, pepper), and the air quality can be challenging at times
- Steel-toed shoes are required. Lab coats, helmets, and hairnets will be provided and need to be worn daily. Would need to adhere to health and safety requirements and regulations.
- Long period of concentration is required; the position involves managing many high-priority issues at once, and frequent interruptions may occur
Pay: From $17.50 per hour
