Our client, a well-established fuel supplier, is looking for a Controller with excellent business acumen to be part of their executive management team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a local company that truly values the contributions of its staff.

**Responsibilities**:
Accounting Functions
- Drummond Fuels (Ottawa) Ltd., George W. Drummond Ltd., and the financial reporting for two real estate companies
- Generating monthly/annual financial statements and ad hoc financial analysis to support the business decisions of the company to include ongoing variance analysis (prior year vs. current year and budget vs. actual)
- Managing the credit relationship and monthly collections of key accounts (In-house Fuel Cards)
- Collection calls, payment terms, placing accounts on-hold
- Working with third party collection firms
- Developing annual operational budgets in consultation with the President
- Managing the cash flow and forecasting functions
- Assessing and documenting internal controls
- Preparing monthly and year end working papers/account analysis (including the management of quarterly/annual inventory counts)
- Managing the relationship with the external auditors, bankers, lawyers and insurance providers
- Maintaining policy and procedure documentation for financial and accounting processes
- Coordinating all governmental audits and compliance requirements such as licenses
- Developing tools, reports and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations
- Supporting new systems or project selections and their implementation from a strategic finance & internal control perspective
- Managing all changes/improvements in the financial programs of the companies
- Oversight of all finance/accounting

Operational Functions
- Meets regularly with Managers to offer additional insight
- Analyzes product pricing, costing and margins
- Seek outs, negotiates, and manages strategic partnerships that can offer additional revenue opportunities at each Gas Bar location
- Manages legal; relationship with Strategic Partners (Tim Horton’s, Shoppers Drug Mart, LCBO,OLGC etc.) and Lessees
- Assists in recruiting all Lessee and Store Managers
- Develops and implements Management performance bonus systems for Store Managers
- Negotiates and drafts contracts with third-party Lessees (Store operator/Managers) including provisions for additional rent
- Calculates and reviews bonuses for store Managers and additional rent for Lessees
- Works with community groups, civic officials, lawyers and other professionals on rezoning and/or site plan approvals for new store development.

Human Resources Functions
- Managing group insurance & benefit plans
- Support for Hiring, training, mentoring
- Coordinating annual employee reviews
- Creating, maintaining and administering all human resource policies, procedures and programs

**Qualifications**:

- Professional accounting designation (CPA CA, CPA CMA or CPA CGA) would be considered an asset.
- 3-5 years of financial control and management reporting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage time effectively, and prioritize responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
