Youth Engagement Specialist

**Description**
This position will be based out of the Mathison Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre but involves working closely with government and non-profit agencies across the province. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will generally work during normal business hours but will occasionally need to work evenings or weekends. This position allows some flexibility to work from home, but travel to study sites across the province will be required at different phases of the study. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will report to the Senior Scientist.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Coordination
- Coordinate, organize and monitor projects plans, timeline, and deliverables
- Prepare presentation materials for meetings and regular team communication
- Organize, attend, and participate in team and stakeholder meetings; document and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings
- Budget monitoring and assistance with financial reporting
- Communication with internal/external stakeholders, research and community partners
- Ensure project deadlines are met
Research Activities
- Assist with the screening and recruitment of participants and coordinate scheduling of qualitative interviews, focus groups, and participatory research activities
- Develop documents for research projects including preparing and submitting ethics protocols and amendments where relevant
- Keep electronic records of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications, etc.
- Data collection and data entry for participant screening, background demographics, surveys and progress
- Coordinate transcription and prepare transcripts for data analysis (cleaning, anonymizing, and uploading data)
- Co-facilitate research data collection activities such as focus groups and training
- Organize knowledge translation activities including webinars and conference presentations
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or a related discipline
- 2-5 years of experience in a research environment
- Experience in managing multi-stakeholder relations, volunteer support/management, managing expectations, training and facilitation, providing feedback
- Respects diversity and different opinions
- Has an understanding of patient-oriented research and can clearly and genuinely articulate the value of patient engagement in health research
- Warm, inviting and authentic character an asset
- Ability to work independently and function as a team member
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in communicating with different stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and set priorities
- Respects and maintains confidentiality as required in their employment contracts from University of Calgary and in accordance with provincial privacy laws (AB-Personal Information Protection Act, NL-Personal Health Information Act, ON-Personal Health Information Protection Act)
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Strong working knowledge of University practices, procedures, and systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, eFIN, IRISS, SharePoint)
