**Department summary**

Lymphatic disorders destroy people’s quality of life and contribute to cancer progressions. Our knowledge on how stress and/or injury affects the lymphatic system is poorly understood. To gain a better understanding of how lymphatic endothelial cells respond to stress through survival and cell death signaling pathways, we will determine microenvironmental factors that affect these cellular responses to stress and resistance to treatment in two lymphatic disorders; lymphedema and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

**Position summary**

Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate designs and conducts complex scientific research specifically as it relates to lymphatic diseases in animal models. This includes collecting, analyzing and interpreting data relating to research into the molecular and cellular determinants of lymphatic diseases including lymphedema.

Assists the Principal Investigator in supervision of students in the laboratory

Works in BL2 biohazard containment facilities

Performs animal studies including surgical procedures.

**Duties**

**Laboratory Work and Research 90%**

1. Work collaboratively with PI to plan and execute experiments.

2. Perform projects related to studying lymphatic endothelium cells response to stress and injury.

3. Work animal models of the lymphatic system to study lymphedema.

4. Perform techniques such as cell culture, western blotting, imaging, flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy.

5. Summarize results and disseminate data.

**Laboratory Maintenance and Administration 10%**

1. Responsible for operation, troubleshooting and quality control of all laboratory equipment.

2. Ensure lab is in a state of readiness by calling specific service personnel as required for repairs and maintenances for equipment and lab infrastructure as it relates to the research project.

3. Order lab supplies on a daily basis as needed.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Ph.D. in oncology, biochemistry or immunology or related fields completed in the past four years.
- Experience working in a research laboratory environment
- Extensive experience working with tissue culture and animal models
- Experience with mouse surgery
- Demonstrated knowledge of cell biology
- Computer proficiency in MS Office, Google Apps and statistical software.
- Good time management skills and ability to work independently
