The English Language Program at The University of Winnipeg is seeking a Project Officer for the Languages at Work (LAW) and Canadian Workplace Experience (CWE) programs.

The Languages at Work Program is a joint initiative of the Explore Program and Young Canada Works. Designed for Explore bursary recipients, Languages at Work offers participants unique opportunities to continue learning their second language in a professional context. Following the completion of the Spring Explore program, bursary recipients will have the opportunity to stay in Winnipeg for job placements (6-8 weeks). The Canadian Workplace Experience Program consists of a placement at a local host organization (3 weeks) that allows students to immerse themselves in an authentic professional Canadian work environment in order to improve their professional communication skills.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assess student interests as they relate to placements and recommend suitable partnerships.
- Hold student activities and meetings to communicate possible placement opportunities.
- Resolve student concerns related to LAW and CWE placements.
- Assist LAW students to find suitable housing for the duration of work placement.
- Prepare information packages to introduce students to the organization they will be placed at. This includes researching information, preparing presentation slides, meeting one on one with students to answer questions, and sharing existing information packages with students.
- Make site visits during the placements.
- Attend all scheduled program meetings, events and activities.
- Liaise between LAW coordinator and students.
- Manage and distribute finances where necessary.
- Be the local “point of contact” for students and employers regarding inquiries related to the LAW and CWE Programs.
- Promote the LAW and CWE Programs to students and potential employers at various orientations, information sessions and meetings using existing materials. May update materials or create presentation slides to present to students.
- Cultivate new opportunities and build new relationships with local businesses to accept LAW and CWE students into their workplace.
- Register the employers with the LAW Program through a centralized government website.
- Participate in the LAW program’s evaluation process by completing a Languages at Work Program report.
- Administer evaluation forms for employers and participants, and submit completed forms to the National LAW Coordinator.
- Complete final LAW and CWE program reports with suggestions for future project officers.
- Assist with general office duties.

**Qualifications**:

- Full-time secondary or post-secondary student who intends to return to school.
- 1-2 years of related experience.
- Experience with promotion and customer service.
- Experience maintaining organized records.
- Experience planning and facilitating group activities or meetings.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Experience prioritizing workload.
- Experience reporting using online platforms considered an asset.
- Experience working with international students and exchange programs considered an asset.
- Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Presentation skills.
- Time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada.
- Must be between 18-30 years of age at start of employment.
- Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
- Must not have another full-time job (30 hours/week or more) while also employed in this position.
- Must have been a full-time student (as defined by their educational institutions) in the semester preceding their job with YCW; and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following their job with YCW.
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Must have successful clearance of a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. Please note, the responsibility for both lies with the applicant.

**An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.**
