**Mission Statement**

The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services to enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.

**Position Summary**

The position's primary responsibility is to deliver in-person basic computer classes for newcomers with limited English skills and limited exposure to computers.

**Requirements**:

- ED. and TESL training/experience; consideration will also be given to a combination of a related university degree and formal TESL training/work experience;
- Knowledge of and experience teaching online and using different platforms to deliver lessons, support learners, and evaluate learners' progress;
- Experience developing curriculum base on the program outcomes and learners' needs; experience developing classroom materials appropriate for the learners' level;
- Knowledge of the Canadian Language Benchmarks framework is an asset;
- Experience and sensitivity in working with newcomers to Canada including those with limited English language skills, ability to establish rapport with learners from diverse backgrounds;
- Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and organization skills. Proven accountability, resourcefulness and professionalism.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop program curriculum in partnership with team members
- Continually improve, customize and update learning outcomes and materials in response to students' needs
- Develop daily lessons with a logical sequence of activities that build on previous knowledge, create interest in new topics, and build the scaffolding needed to assimilate new concepts
- Tailor content to the learners' needs by eliciting previous knowledge and filling in the gaps
- Assist students in achieving all identified learning outcomes
- Provide on-going assessment and evaluation of students' progress to determine whether they have achieved required outcomes to determine placement in future classes
- Promote independence by helping students develop computer skills for daily life
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate class records; submit required monthly reports in a timely manner.
- Foster a positive, supportive and inclusive learning environment for learners.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the TESL field by participating in internal and external PD events; share learning with colleagues through staff meetings and internal PD as required; incorporate the material to enhance teaching.
- Participate in regular team meetings.
- Perform other position-related duties as required

**Hours of Work/Salary**

The contract is for the period from July 1st, 2023 to March 31st, 2024 with a total of 160 hours.

The hours will be divided between 5 intakes, 32 work hours per intake, including 24 direct teaching hours and 8 hours of prep/meeting time per intake. Direct teaching hours will be Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM during intakes.

The classification for this position is Professional Category 1 at Step 1. The wage is $29.09 per hour plus mandatory MERCs.
