Family Services Coordinator

Kahkiyaw Ayisiyinowak ka Wahkotot - “All people, especially traditional peoples, are related” - Kahkiyaw is a new and ground-breaking Aboriginal-led and community-based program created to significantly improve the lives of Indigenous children, youth, and families in the Edmonton and Area Children and Family Services Authority (CFSA).
Kahkiyaw is being delivered in partnership by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and Boyle Street Community Services, two community organizations with a long and successful history of serving Indigenous people in Edmonton. Working in partnership with Children and Family Services (CFS) Central Neighbourhood Centre, and using the Collaborative Service Delivery (CSD) model, the program will provide a continuum of services to improve the outcomes for Indigenous children and families in our city.
**Responsibilities**:
- This trained professional will act as the coordinator of incoming Kahkiyaw CSD referrals that are sent in only by Children and Family Services (CFS) partners (Assessor/Case Worker).
- Assess the children and family needs, organize safety network meetings with CFS partners and network members, converse with Kahkiyaw supervisors and match new referrals with designated Family Wellness Workers.
- In the interim of waiting for an assigned Family wellness worker, this position will support the needs of the family with; family circles, cultural connection, community referrals, accessing financial supports, arranging supported access visits, and will attend CFS service team meetings to safety plan and mitigate protection concerns
- Create an electronic client file for each new intake, gather documents and organize files with valid information from our CFS partners, provide case notes electronically entered on Penelope Database and placed in new client file.
- Complete ON CALL notes to inform On Call teams of families’ safety plans, weekend visits etc.
Qualification Requirements
- A degree or diploma in a Human Services field is a must - i.e. Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Education, etc.
- 3-5 years’ work-related experience is a must.
- Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record and Intervention Record Checks, and Driver’s Abstract is required prior to starting employment.
- Strong problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced work environment
Salary and Benefits
- Salary plus monthly auto allowance.
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
**Salary**: $55,000.00-$57,750.00 per year
