This position is with the Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. This position will be supervised by Dr. Xingfei Liu.

**Position Summary**

The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with Dr. Xingfei Liu on research projects related to the economic behaviours of immigrants. The primary role of this position is to model and analyze the income/earnings of immigrants in Canada, using advanced econometric techniques and other statistical tools in applied Micro-Economics. However, the research topic may extend to other labor market outcomes, such as work and health outcomes as well as policy impact analysis.

**Position Duration**

The initial appointment for this position is for one year. Subject to satisfactory performance and budget approval, this may be extended to a two-year position. Further extensions are possible depending on performance and budgets.

**Compensation and Benefits**

The annual salary range is 55,000 - 68,000 CAD. In addition, the position includes a benefit package found at Postdoctoral Fellows Benefits.

**Qualifications**
- Education: PhD in Economics, Labor Economics, or related fields (obtained within the past 5 years)
- Econometrics: Demonstrated expertise in advanced micro-econometric analysis with popular economic analysis software such as STATA and/or R, SAS, Fortran
- Ability to conduct high-quality research.
- Communication skills: Effective writing and verbal communication skills. The ability to collaborate effectively in a research team with diverse academic backgrounds.

**Other Desired Attributes**
- Experience in working with administrative data such as panel data and repeated cross-sectional data.
- Strong programming skills is a plus.
- Experience in individual economic decision modeling, wage structure, labor supply, causal analysis is preferred.
- Writing: Demonstrated high-quality academic writing.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Collecting and analyzing micro-level labour force, employment, wage data for immigrants and other demographic groups in Canada, the U.S. and other major immigration countries.
- Develop human capital models to address income/wage gaps between different demographic groups (immigrants vs. natives).
- Build econometric models to analyze other labour market outcomes including health outcomes.
- Analyzing economic impacts from major economic shocks such as COVID-19 and AI.
- Investigate the role of immigration policy in shaping income/wage gaps between natives and immigrants.
- Prepare presentations, scientific reports, and writing academic papers related to the research.
