The Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families (CUP) at the University of Alberta is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) for a 1-year appointment. CUP is a unique collaboration of researchers, practitioners, community organizations and members, funders, and policy makers across Alberta. We are committed to improving the development of children, youth, families and communities by creating or mobilizing evidence-informed knowledge that impacts programs, practices, and policies. CUP has a 20-year history of collaborative community-based research experience. CUP works closely with the EndPovertyEdmonton (EPE) Secretariat, which is a community-led, anti-poverty organization in Edmonton. EPE brings together people impacted by poverty, community leaders, and government (municipal, provincial, federal, and Indigenous) to collectively eliminate poverty in our city. Dr. Maria Mayan is a member of the EPE Stewardship Roundtable.
**Position Summary**
The PDF will support a project exploring how an inclusive economy approach can be used to inform economic development. Under the supervision of Dr. Maria Mayan, the PDF will work alongside the EPE Secretariat and EPE partners (community agencies, funders, government partners) to contribute to data collection and analysis related to inclusive economies; develop knowledge mobilization products (e.g., research briefs and manuscripts); and identify relevant funding opportunities to support the EPE-CUP partnership. CUP offers a supportive environment within which the PDF will strengthen their research skills, exercise creative and innovative thinking, and develop networks of collaborators within academia, government, and the social sector.
The PDF’s appointment will be at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada. The PDF may need to travel to other Alberta communities outside of Edmonton for meetings or data collection as needed.
**Duties**
Research
- Implements research activities to fulfill project objectives.
- Employs qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches to answer research questions.
- Provides expertise in community-based participatory research design and methodology.
- Supports collaborative work with research partners (community, government, and/or academic).
- Monitors trends and issues relevant to partners.
Knowledge Mobilization
- Contributes to knowledge mobilization activities (i.e., publications and presentations in academic and non-academic venues).
- Translates learnings into targeted, impactful information for community partners.
General
- Provides guidance and mentorship to graduate students.
**Qualifications**
- Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (e.g., social sciences, public health, education).
- Experience in community engagement and community-based research and/or evaluation.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; exceptional writing skills.
- The initial appointment must occur within five years from the completion of a doctoral degree.
