Special Events and Communications Assistant

Hours of Work: 35 hrs/week

Duration: 10-week contract position

Start date: May 27, 2024

Wage: $16.55/hr
- This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, and requires the successful applicant to be between 15 and 30 years of age.

Overview

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara (BBBSN) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual to fulfill the position of Special Events and Communications Assistant. This position will support the marketing and fundraising initiatives of the agency. This position will both work with the internal team and also represent BBBSN in the community.

Job Duties:

- Assist in the development of promotional and communications materials for BBBSN events and the Nearly New Thrift Store in Niagara Falls.
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of various activities for events, fundraising, community engagement, and the Nearly New Thrift Store.
- Assist with the production and development of materials for event participants, sponsors, committee members, and volunteers.
- Liaise with staff, volunteers, business and community groups on the special events for the organization.
- Assist in developing content for social media platforms for both the agency and the Nearly New Thrift Store.
- Support and assist with all scheduling details of special events as required including in coordinating necessary volunteers for events.
- Reception duties and management of event and donation database as required.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- The employee here with confirms that they are competent and physically able to perform the work they are employed for.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary student with/or in event management, communications, marketing or related field.
- Experience with social media and event marketing is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to set priorities and develop a work schedule.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to multi-task and be flexible.
- Strong computer skills, with ability to utilize Microsoft Software (365, Dynamics, Teams, Office, Excel, etc.)

Working Conditions:

- Work locations will vary from an office environment to community and event locations.
- Monday to Friday, with regular evenings and weekends required.
- Work as part of a team, maintaining flexibility and ongoing communication.
- This position requires the employee to have access to a reliable insured vehicle, valid driver’s license, and ability to travel between multiples offices/sites.
- This position will be directly accountable to the Marketing and Communications Coordinator. The individual will interact daily with members of the Service Delivery team and other agency staff.
