Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. Recognizing the diversity of women’s experience in today’s society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman’s life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.

**Position Purpose**

Provides counselling services and psychotherapy to individuals, groups, and family members for substance use and related concerns as required. Liaises with other professionals to create treatment plans for a broad range of substance use issues.

**Responsibilities**

**Service**
- Provide individual/group counselling, virtually.
- Provide a variety of clinical assessments to meet the needs of women with substance use and mental health concerns.
- Develop and implement a therapeutic relationship to address factors contributing to substance use, trauma and/or family related challenges.
- Provide referrals for supporting care and follow-up with institutions to promote seamless integrated care.
- Identify and build linkages with agencies, other supporting organizations and social service systems in the area to promote consistent and effective intervention for clients.
- Engage in capacity building within agencies and across the mental health and substance use sector in the GTA for trauma-informed care.
- Identify and make accessible a variety of supports including, housing, financial aid, family support, crisis intervention/prevention/support, advocacy for women in need.

**Administration**
- Maintain documentation of relevant client interactions and interventions, and contacts with collateral supports.
- Monitor the progress of clients, prepare reports and letters as necessary.
- Participate in staff meetings, team development and supervision meetings.
- Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
- Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.

**Organizational**
- Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma specific, women-centered and anti-oppressive practices.
- Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
- Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.
- Maintain a client service orientation including learning about and addressing client needs and concerns.
- Work collaboratively including respect others, sharing information, consulting and celebrating shared successes.
- Demonstrate accountability by holding oneself responsible and following through on commitments.
- Support inclusion and equity by respecting others, embracing diversity and addressing oppression.

**Qualifications**
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and licensed to conduct the controlled act of psychotherapy.
- 3 years of experience in the field of substance use, mental health and trauma-informed practice.
- Working knowledge of trauma specific practice, women centered principles and best practices for women and substance use.
- Experience working with women who have been involved in the shelter system, criminal justice system, or had difficulty accessing appropriate health services.
- Experience in capacity building and the provision of training and consultation.
- Excellent clinical skills including individual and group, brief and long-term counseling, trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of community resources and supports in the Toronto area.
- Ability to prepare and present information in both formal and informal settings.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Due to COVID 19, proof of vaccination is required prior to commencement of employment.
