Community Living Society (“CLS”) is an innovative non-profit organization established in 1978. CLS is dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can live full, productive and meaningful lives. We have over 500 employees and work with over 400 individuals throughout the Lower Mainland.

This **Accounting Manager** Role falls within the Finance Department which is comprised of a number of individuals responsible for accounting and financial reporting. This position reports directly to the Finance Controller.

**The Role**:
You will take the lead on a key leadership role within the Finance Department to ensure CLS remains in compliance with government, regulatory, and contractual reporting obligations. This requires remaining informed of current federal and provincial statutory regulations (various gov’t, funders, payroll, benefits, etc.). contracts in effect, and reporting requirements, managing the compliance requirements of the Society, and contributing a finance perspective to organizational policy and strategy discussions.

You will represent the CLS Finance Department as the initial point of contact for any issues relating to accounting and financial reporting; as such, liaise with and support both internal and external professionals on a regular basis.

**Qualifications**:

- Designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or relevant accounting/financial certification is ideal (Or equivalent multi-year experience)
- Bachelor Degree with a preference in Commerce/Business Administration; Mathematics and or a relevant discipline;
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and Intermediate to Advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel is required.
- Experience analyzing high volumes of information and prioritizing.
- Organized with good communication and strong documentation skills.
- Experience with NetSuite Accounting System and UKG Payroll System is preferred but not required.

**Day in the life**:

- Must possess a strong understanding of accounting, regulatory, and reporting requirements to ensure deadlines are appropriately communicated and adhered to.
- The position requires flexibility to accommodate routine weekly and monthly tasks as well as fluctuating ad-hoc tasks and special projects as needed.

**_ Daily: _**
- **Lead, Support, and Manage**: Finance Staff in day-to-day operations in accordance with deadlines.
- **Deadlines**: Reporting and Compliance - Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial statutory regulations (various gov’t, funders, payroll, benefits, etc.)
- **Accounting Transactions**:

- Is familiar with fund accounting practices and has a strong understanding of GAAP for NPOs.
- Revenue/ AR/ Deferred Revenue/ Cash Receipts: _(Cycle & Reconciliation)_
- Expense/ AP/ Prepaids/ Cash Disbursements: _(Cycle & Reconciliation)_
- Payroll/ AP/Cash Disbursements: _(Cycle & Reconciliation)_

**_Weekly: _**
- **Professional Process and Documentation**:

- Ensure all process documentation is maintained and kept up-to-date.
- Provide oversight of internal controls with respect to payroll and implement functional system and process improvements.
- Oversee the processing, planning, and reporting of finance, payroll, and benefit within deadlines.
- **Training Staff**:

- Manages the training and development of staff within the team (including training materials).
- Ensure full coverage across all functions of the Finance department.
- Develop and utilize the talents and skills of the Finance team members.

**_Bi-Weekly: Payroll: _**_(Review & backfill coverage) _
- Support and lead payroll specialist in processing payroll for approx. 500+ CLS employees each bi-weekly pay period.
- Review and approve bi-weekly payroll payment.
- Ensure bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual filing deadlines are met.
- Able and willing to assist with coverage for payroll processor as required (ie. Vacation time off coverage).
- Clear and up-to-date understanding to ensure compliance key regulatory and filing deadlines.
