
Community Engagement Specialist

The Mustard Seed is a Christian organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatoon. Our mission is to build community, grow hope, and support change. The Community Engagement Specialist will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission within Saskatoon by overseeing and driving community engagement, volunteer programs, and educational initiatives.
This position requires leadership, relationship-building, and public speaking skills to foster connections with local churches, schools, businesses, and organizations. The Community Engagement Specialist will work closely with internal teams and external community partners to enhance program outreach and promote awareness of poverty and homelessness issues.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Community Engagement Strategy: Collaborate with the Senior Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement to develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy.
- Relationship Building: Establish and nurture relationships with local churches, community leaders, businesses, educational institutions, and other organizations. Conduct presentations and represent The Mustard Seed at community events.
- Volunteer Engagement: Work closely with internal teams to ensure best practices in volunteer intake, training, supervision, evaluation, and recognition. Identify volunteer needs across various Mustard Seed programs and ensure seamless volunteer management processes.
- Educational Programming: Facilitate educational programming and workshops that raise awareness about poverty and homelessness. Engage various audiences through presentations, workshops, and community events.
- Collaborative Initiatives: Support the Community Engagement team in developing and launching new initiatives to increase awareness and engagement around poverty-related issues.
- Program Evaluation: Maintain strong administrative skills to track the effectiveness of community engagement and volunteer programs. Regularly assess program outcomes and participant engagement.
- Public Speaking & Media: Represent The Mustard Seed publicly, publicly speaking at local events, churches, schools, and possibly in media outlets.
- Volunteer Recognition: Develop and implement creative ways to celebrate and acknowledge volunteer contributions within The Mustard Seed community.
- Cross-departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to identify areas of need and assist in the development of collaborative solutions. Facilitate referrals to case managers when needed.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as required by management.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Education: A degree in ministry, education, social work, or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least three years of experience in a nonprofit, social service, or educational setting, preferably with communities affected by poverty and homelessness.
- Proven success in building relationships and networking with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
- Skills:
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and administrative abilities.
- Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, with a high degree of initiative.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Evening and weekend work may be required
- Access to a reliable vehicle is required, and have a minimum of $2 million in liability insurance
- Some traveling may be required as part of this role
- Moderate physical effort required; keyboarding, word processing, walking, database maintenance, standing while teaching and public speaking.
- Moderate mental effort; teaching, communicating information to the public, fostering relationships, and facilitating programs.
