**Position Summary**

The Bookkeeper performs bookkeeping duties similar in nature to a small business environment including recording the Parish’s financial transactions, reviewing invoices and preparing checks for signature by the wardens in a responsible and organized manner so that the mission and ministry of the congregation are supported and strengthened.

**Qualifications**
- A good working knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, charitable tax laws, and reporting requirements
- Must have strong general competency in bookkeeping
- Computer literate including experience with bookkeeping software
- Familiarity with PowerChurch software is an asset
- Ability to adapt to and learn new software
- Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High level of personal integrity and work ethic, attention to detail in all areas

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**

General:

- Maintain books of account
- Compile data and work with the Treasurer to prepare a variety of reports and statements
- Follow procedures for safeguarding financial and personal data, including security and computer backup (backup monthly financial statements and store off-site)
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes, practices, reporting requirements and trends and their impact on the Parish’s bookkeeping and financial obligations
- Prepare charitable tax receipts for donors
- Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for financial transactions
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial information pertaining to giving and givers
- Perform other finance-related duties as assigned

Contributions and Accounts Receivable
- Close total contributions to General Fund and record all other types of receipts and deposits

Accounts Payable:

- Issue cheques using PowerChurch software program
- Obtain church bank account information online

Monthly Duties:

- Obtain Hydro and Gas invoices online
- Issue an invoice to the Day Care for cost recovery of shared expenses as required by license agreement with Daycare with supporting documentation
- Calculate payroll for staff and issue cheques
- Calculate withholding taxes and issue cheque for remittances to Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA)
- Close Accounts Payable (AP) to General Fund, close General Fund, and reconcile bank account
- Provide financial information to the Treasurer and Priest-in-Charge as requested from time to time, including a copy of the photocopy use report generated by the photocopier

Yearly Duties:

- File semi-annual HST/GST returns
- Prepare accounts with supporting documentation for auditor
- Assist auditor with year end closing
- Store away previous year’s file folders and create new folders for current year
- File T4 slips with T4 summary and file T4As slips with T4A summary

**Parish Council, Vestry, & Warden Meetings**

The Bookkeeper will work with the Treasurer to ensure that monthly financial statements are prepared and distributed by the Treasurer in advance of the monthly Warden meetings and Parish Council meetings.

**Screening Requirement**

As a high risk position, it is required that the Bookkeeper complete the Diocesan Safe Church/Screening in Faith training and complete a Criminal Record Check.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 2.5 per week

**Salary**: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
