**Job title**: Community Connections Worker

**Reports to**: Manager, Settlement Services

**Hours of work**: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m

**Job purpose**

Works at the Community Connections program funded by Citizenship & Immigration Canada; facilitates the settlement process, adaptation and integration of newcomers. Manages all CC activities, provides ideas for new activities, does outreach and promotion of program.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Manages and conducts established activities and develops and provides ideas for new ones
- Assesses needs, interests, geographic proximity, etc. of newcomers and volunteers
- Meets target numbers as stipulated in Citizenship & Immigration contract
- Provides information and orientation session for volunteers
- Provides ongoing support, encouragement and training to ensure activities are successful
- Conducts minimum number of Canada Connects, Newcomer Kitchen, and 1 ECC session as stipulated in the IRCC contract
- Maintains accurate client/volunteer records. Works on program database and iCARE (IRCC database)
- Prepares narrative & statistical reports on a monthly basis and as required.
- Works in a team approach with other CDCD programs to provide 1 Community Picnic/1 Field Trip/4 recreational programs
- Supports and assists other members of the CC team in a friendly atmosphere
- Manages program within the CC budget as stipulated in contract
- Ensures that workplace conduct and activities are in accord with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Social Services or related area of study
- Proven settlement experience working with newcomers, professionals, victims of trauma/torture, war, and refugees
- Demonstrated ability to advocate, liaises, mediate
- Knowledge of international issues that impact refugees/immigrants
- Thorough knowledge of Durham Region and services available in the area
- Ability to make presentations, conduct workshops and make cold calls to potential clients
- Ability to speak and write in additional languages an asset but not a requirement
- Proficient in the use of computer programs for: Word Processing; Databases; Spread sheets; E-mail; Internet; Power Point

**Special Conditions**

The Community Connections Worker will need to be flexible in working evening shifts and/or weekends and attending meetings and events as required.

Class “G” Driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to use on CDCD business
