**Project Coordinator - Building a Community Alliance for Black Food Sovereignty in Toronto (BCA)**

**(20 hrs/week for 24 weeks)**

**The purpose of the BCA project is to develop an infrastructure that ensures community leadership and meaningful involvement in implementing and monitoring the BFS Plan. Community leadership will be instrumental to ensuring that the Plan remains grounded in community needs and interests, and that Black communities benefit optimally from the BFS Plan.**

The Project Coordinator will assist and work with the Black Food Sovereignty Working Group to plan, implement and evaluate community discussion events that disseminates information about the City of Toronto’s Black Food
Sovereignty Plan. This will strengthen community understanding of the BFS strategy, and build community interest in developing initiatives that centre community livelihood within the framework of the BFS Plan.

The Project Coordinator will work with the team to realize our primary goals for this project bringing together experts from within the Black community and strong allies, to (a) establish a Black Food Sovereignty Alliance of champions; (b) mobilize Black communities to increase understanding of the related systemic and strategic issues; (c) identify strategic priorities for realizing food sovereignty; (d) create sustainable economic opportunities for low-income Black Torontonians; (e) develop and implement media outreach and manage media requests; and (g) coordinate the evaluation and reporting about our events.

**Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
**Project Management**
- Develop implementation timelines, and track the progress of the planning and implementation efforts.
- Promote and publicise the event to generate interest and support among relevant stakeholders.
- Develop a workplan for developing and implementing the events
- Coordinate and monitor implementation of the work plan activities
- Organise meetings of the project teams and committees.
- Attend and take minutes of all weekly meetings and distribute them to relevant meeting participants in a timely manner
- File and store print and electronic documents as appropriate.

**Other Administrative and General Duties**
- Prepare progress reports on the planning activities.
- Assist with preparing project reports for funders.
- Carry out other administrative tasks where necessary.

**Volunteer Coordination**
- Where necessary, recruit, train and coordinate volunteers to assist with developing, implementing or evaluating the event.

**Qualifications**
- MUST have experience working in the Black community.
- Strong understanding of food insecurity among Black communities, and the structural conditions that promote food insecurity.
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field, or a suitable combination of education and experience
- At least 2 years of experience in planning meetings and working with Black communities.
- Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to implement community projects.
- Proficient with Google Suite and Microsoft platforms (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, be self-directed, and function effectively in a team environment.

**Wage**:20hrs/wk. X 24 wks. at $25/hr.
