**Our Team**:
The Corporate Communications Team helps deliver on Regional Council’s vision by promoting the organization on local, national, and international levels. The team provides strategic communications expertise to identify communications issues and risks and build strong relationships with media and community partners. We create content that engages residents and supports the services and programs we provide. We genuinely love what we do and we are looking for others who share this passion.
**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Communications Specialist develops and implements corporate communication strategies to raise public awareness and understanding of the Region’s services and operations, and advance the Region’s identity as a leader in the delivery of public services. Identifies and pursues opportunities to promote Regional programs and services (internally and externally), to build public trust and confidence. - You will lead the creation of the monthly external and internal newsletters, including written and video content. Oversee and participate in the writing and design of other regional publications, such as promotional materials, media releases and advisories.
- You will provide guidance/support to consultants on corporate communications standards/guidelines.
- Regularly attend Council meetings. Write/summarize department committee reports to share Council decisions with residents, media, and stakeholders.
- You will use leaderships skills to advise and act as a consultant to Regional staff for events, including news conferences and program and service launches, particularly when partnering with other government bodies. Liaises with other government staff on event logistics as necessary.
- In the event of a Regional Emergency, you will participate as part of the Core Crisis Communications Team where you will attend emergency group meetings, compile news releases, and coordinate news conferences.
- You will back up some of the duties of the Manager, as required in that incumbent’s absence.
**What you will bring along with you**:
- Knowledge of business methods, social media, communications and strategic promotional campaign development, and administrative policies and procedures, normally acquired through a university degree in a related field (e.g., Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Public Administration), plus progressively responsible related municipal experience, including developing, implementing, and promoting corporate policies and procedures, initiatives, and continuous improvement concepts.
- Leadership, communication, human relations, presentation skills to communicate and promote the Region to the media, public, and Regional employees; conduct presentations, workshops, information sessions to communications staff; respond to inquiries and requests, sometimes involving politically sensitive issues; instruct/train Regional staff in specific work methods/procedures related to website platforms; and participate as an effective team member.

- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret, policies, reports, and legislation.
- Ability to write and edit media releases, creative briefs, speaking notes, articles, letters, and newsletters using creative and interpretive writing skills;
- develop comprehensive communications plans for client departments; prepare guidelines and materials for presentations, workshops, information sessions, slide shows materials; and develop and modify communications according to audience. Ability to keep skills current.
