**Our Human Resources and Corporate Services Department is seeking a Database Administrator who will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of the organization's databases.**

**You are a highly motivated and experienced Database Administrator who is passionate about managing and maintaining databases.**

**This role**:

- Designs, installs and maintains database systems to ensure a high level of data availability; develops database architecture; develops, maintains and communicates database and coding standards and quality assurance standards and procedures; plans and coordinates data migration between systems.
- Monitors and evaluates technical performance of corporate data systems; identifies and resolves data abnormalities to avoid system outages; recommends replacement of aging systems; evaluates new software and assesses impact of new technology on existing systems.
- Serves as project manager on various infrastructure and database projects; establishes project schedules and milestones; assigns tasks to team members and provides advice and guidance; monitors progress and performs follow-up services as required.
- Researches, evaluates and recommends information technology solutions related to database and performance measurement tools, backup and recovery processes, system storage, and data security and confidentiality; designs, implements and tests backup systems and policies and procedures for data and disaster recovery and data archiving; prepares and presents reports related to information technology and storage solutions as required.
- Performs related work as required.

**To be successful, you have**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Commerce including or supplemented by courses in database management plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with database design and management.
- Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and capabilities of the District’s computer hardware as it relates to the work performed. (Such as data pipeline management and development using SSIS, SQL database replication, database backup using SQL encryption)
- Considerable knowledge of the operating techniques and procedures used in computer installation.
- Considerable knowledge of the operations and functions of departments served and their requirements as applied to the work performed.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate various data and information requirements and to prepare recommendations regarding the advisability and feasibility of incorporating changes or additions to the corporate data model.
- Ability to prepare detailed designs for all databases including physical and logical data structures, and to control shared usage of data throughout the corporation.
- Ability to establish standards and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, availability and recovery of all data.
- Ability to serve as project manager for a variety of infrastructure and database projects, establish project schedules, assign and guide the work of team members, and monitor progress.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of contacts and to provide advice and assistance on matters related to the work.
- Ability to review the work of consultants for compliance with corporate standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand computer programs.
