**Working for the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Faculty of Nursing**

The mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine is to optimize and advance the provision of emergency medical care through excellence in education, research, and community service.

The Department’s research groups are heavily involved in evidence-based medicine and have produced high-quality evidence-based research for over 20 years. Knowledge synthesis and translation activities have provided a platform from which to exchange valuable information that has been used to improve the quality of care delivered to patients in the ED in Alberta, nationally, and internationally.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is one of the largest nursing education institutions in Canada. We are recognized as a leader in research, shaping nursing practice and policy at national and international levels.

**Position Summary**

Working under the supervision of the Dr. McLane (Department of Emergency Medicine) and Dr. Tate (Faculty of Nursing), the Data Analyst will work on analyzing large datasets examining quality of health care for Métis and non-Métis patients in Alberta. They will also be responsible for data cleaning and analysis of provincial home care data, which may include multiple regression, multinomial regression, mixed-effect modeling, and/or time-to-event analysis using primarily SAS. The Data Analyst will conduct data management, analysis, and interpretation, as well as prepare presentation of findings (publications, reports, presentations).

**Duties**
- Prepares detailed analytic plans in conjunction principal investigators and research partners
- Analyzes data using basic and advanced statistical methods such as analysis of variance, non-parametric alternatives, multivariate, pattern, time series, longitudinal, and multilevel modeling
- Interprets and clearly communicates results verbally and in writing
- Generates required tables, graphs, and charts for publication and presentation
- Writes and edits selected methodological and statistical content for manuscripts and abstracts
- Establish/manage data files and undertake metadata documentation
- Aggregates, merges, links and reshapes data as needed for ongoing analyses
- Assists with the establishment and management of data file structures and data management systems

**Qualifications**
- MSc in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Epidemiology or a related health sciences discipline
- Expertise in basic and advanced statistical methods (e.g., analysis of variance, non-parametric alternatives, multivariate modeling including multi-level techniques, time series analysis longitudinal modeling, structural equation modeling, classification techniques) is required
- Experience with using a variety of statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, R, SPSS) and in advanced multivariable modeling techniques
- A high level of proficiency in statistical analyses with large administrative health datasets
- Strong competencies in MS Office software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated abilities as a team player
- Detail oriented with strong problem finding, resolution and documentation skills
- Knowledge of Ethical Métis Research considered an asset
