Hiring Unit:
- Campus Life & Engagement (CL&E)_
supports all McGill students by connecting them to resources and creating meaningful opportunities for involvement. They guide students in navigating the McGill student experience through orientation and transition programming and by providing student life opportunities across campus for students to develop their interests and skills.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director, New Student Experience, and working closely with the lead for each relevant event, the First Aid Student Assistant will examine and treat minor injuries within the level and scope of his or her first aid training and will provide reasonable observation and care to more serious injuries until qualified medical staff can be reached. We are looking for 2 first aid attendants for 3 events: Off-Campus Connects (OCX), Discover McGill, and Grads Connect (GX), orientation events open to incoming McGill undergraduate and graduate students. It’s possible to sign for only one event.
August 17: Event Training, Arts Building - 3-5pm

August 21: Off-Campus Connects (OCX), Tomlinson Fieldhouse - 9am to 4pm
August 22: Discover McGill Service Fair, Lower Field - 11:30am to 3:30pm
August 28: Grads Connect (GX), Tomlinson Fieldhouse/Brown Building - 9am to 4pm
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Examine student participants and treat injuries within the scope of training and/or refer participants to appropriate practitioner or clinic or arrange for transport to local hospital.
- Observe participants with injuries or illnesses requiring further treatment until they are taken in charge by another provider.
- Maintain required records and documentation including log of injuries requiring first aid treatment.
- Maintain adequate inventory of first aid supplies; request additional supplies when needed.
- Maintain neat and tidy first aid station.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Must be a returning McGill student for 2023-2024 academic year with a valid Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification or a certification that is deemed to be more advanced than Canadian Red Cross CPR/AED Level C (i.e. Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Level C) or a valid equivalent (minimum of 16 hours in duration taught by one of the other four national first aid providers (Canadian Ski Patrol, Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance or Heart and Stroke) and covering topics listed on the

- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at level 3 (written) and level 4 (spoken) on a scale of 0-4.
- Ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
- Ability and willingness to work with open cuts, burns, and other injuries.
- Good judgment and evaluation skills.
- Similar past experience would be an asset.
