Reporting to the Biomedical Lab Director, Alberta Children Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI).

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project & Technical Operations
- Develop, implement, and evaluate cutting-edge imaging techniques for medical image segmentation and registration using machine learning algorithms
- Work collaboratively with team members to advance the field of optical microscopy and medical imaging. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- Use 3D computer graphics, medical image analysis, image segmentation, GPU knowledge, C++, image processing, and ultrasound image processing to develop innovative solutions
- Utilize supervised machine learning tools to improve medical imaging processes

Staff Management
- Full-scope management of casual employees and leadership for trainees
- Responsible for the development of job descriptions, interviewing and hiring of new staff, contract renewal, verification of timesheets, training, workflow analysis
- Complete performance evaluations and follow up accordingly including performance management, discipline, and termination as required
- Develop and foster working relationships with team members (clinic staff, analysts, program developers and others)
- Creates a culture within the team that enables and promotes continual improvement
- Mentor and train staff members
- Identify and encourage staff members to enroll in appropriate training and professional development

Communications/Relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Manage relationships with external vendors and ensure deliverables are provided as specified
- Develop and deliver training and training materials to the trainees and casual employees
- Develop guidelines for appropriate use of systems outputs and reports
- Assists with preparation of scientific posters, abstracts, manuscripts and presentations

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- PhD in a related field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering, or applied mathematics required
- Minimum of 7-10 years related experience, experience in a research setting is considered an asset
- Expert in medical image analysis and segmentation, with a focus on optical microscopy and ultrasound imaging
- Expertise in processing images from various modality such as ultrasound, optical projection tomography, light-sheet microscopy, micro computed tomography, optical coherence tomography
- Expertise in software development, including experience with requirements management, object-oriented design, and data modeling
- Knowledge of 3D computer graphics, image processing, GPU programming, C++, Python, Matlab, Git
- Knowledge of bioinformatics
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate difficult concepts, use analytical thought to exercise judgment and find creative solutions
