**Join Our Team as a Mental Health & Substance Use Counsellor**
Are you passionate about making a difference in the community? The Katzie Health Team is seeking a dedicated Mental Health & Substance Use Counsellor to provide culturally sensitive support to individuals and families within the Katzie First Nation.
This position is expected to work varied hours, up to a max of 40 hours per week.
**What you will be responsible for**:
Program Development
- Develop and facilitate group counseling programs, such as relapse prevention and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
- Prepare funding proposals for mental health and substance use programs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary adjustments.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records. Prepare reports and documentation as required by the Katzie Health Services Clinical Manager and the Katzie Health Director.
Crisis Intervention
- Provide immediate support and intervention during mental health or substance use crises.
- Develop and implement crisis management plans tailored to the community’s needs.
Counseling and Support
- Provide individual, family, and group counseling to address mental health and substance use issues.
- Utilize culturally appropriate therapeutic techniques to support clients in their recovery journey.
- Conduct assessments to determine the nature and extent of clients’ mental health and substance use issues.
Community Engagement
- Engage with the community to promote mental health and substance use awareness.
- Facilitate educational workshops on topics such as suicide prevention, substance use, anxiety, and depression.
- Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to develop and implement prevention programs.
Referral and Coordination
- Refer clients to appropriate treatment programs and community resources.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
- Maintain a network of contacts with local treatment centers, social services, and support organizations.
**What you bring to the position**:
- Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field plus three years’ recent related experience in an alcohol and drug treatment environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current certification as a Registered Social Worker, Registered Psychotherapist, or equivalent.
- Experience working with individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.
- Knowledge of culturally appropriate counseling practices for First Nations communities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, maintaining open and professional communications with co-workers, members, and all others who do business with KFN.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and is flexible about the boundaries and functions of the job.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information seen, heard or obtained in the role.
- Empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Effective crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records and other relevant software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ensuring that all internal and external deadlines are met.
- Ability to work flexible hours; evening and weekend work may be required.
- Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to travel within the community and to external meetings or training sessions.
