**Job Summary**

The Specialist, Data Design is responsible for understanding business requirements, creating data definitions, business rules, data quality requirements, as well as logical and physical models. The role supervises and maintains the Data Management (DM) practice within the team. The incumbent brings technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of data, then process, designs and presents it in ways to help people, businesses, and organizations make better decisions. The position ensures data integrity and normalization, and oversees and designs the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.

**Main Responsibilities**

Data Design and Management
- Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models using Erwin
- Build source to target mapping documents to describe data transformations
- Design and develop curated data assets in Data Lake and Data Warehouse to support operational reporting, data science and self-service analytics
- Define, document, and maintain standards and best practices around data modelling
- Perform DM reviews
- Handle the onboarding, support and mentorship of new data modellers
- Perform profiling and analyze data using Structures Query Language (SQL) and Python on multiple sources (e.g., Oracle, Netezza, SQL-Server, Databricks, etc.)

Testing, Troubleshooting and Delivery
- Assess and design data architecture components (e.g., data model, mapping, data flows, and transformations) to make sure they are well integrated and aligned with the data and technical architecture
- Troubleshoot data issues within the business and present solutions and recommendations
- Define unit testing to ensure Data Engineers follow specifications
- Participate in the delivery and support of data quality and consolidation initiatives
- Propose simplification initiatives to allow for more effective data design, and management

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

**Requirements**:
Experience

Data Design and Modelling
- Between 5 to 7 years overall work experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience in analysis, data design and data modelling
- Experience performing root cause analysis to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
- Experience in real time data streaming and loading*
- Experience modelling data for data science projects*
- Experience working with Scale Agile Methodology (SAFe)*
- Experience with semi-structured and unstructured data*
- Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation
- Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or other quantitative field, related degree, or equivalent experience

Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of Erwin Data Modeller r9.8 or similar version
- Advanced knowledge of dimensional modelling techniques, data modelling and data architecture best practices
- Advanced SQL skills
- Knowledge of Azure Data Lake (ADLS), Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Development Operations (DevOps) Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD), GitHub, Databricks, and Business Intelligence or relevant data environment
