**General Information**

The locum Medical Microbiologist reports to the Medical Director and Head, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, or designate, and provides various medical microbiology and infection control services within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.

The Department provides the province’s pediatric and obstetric populations with tertiary and quaternary laboratory care. The Division is responsible for providing academic pediatric and maternal-fetal medicine diagnostic service for the province of BC, with a focus on rapid bacteriology and virology testing, including an extensive menu of microbiological nucleic acid amplification tests. Infection control coverage is also provided for all PHSA agencies.

**Specific Accountabilities**

**Medical Services**
- Provide medical microbiology and infection control services, including participation in the on-call roster.

**Collaboration and Consultation**
- Build relationships and provide prompt and expert consultative services to physicians and other health care providers.
- Participate in daily meetings with Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist.
- Actively engage in academic teaching and research

**Qualifications**

This position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current certification in Medical Microbiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
