**POSITION**:
The Medical Administrative Assistant I utilizes knowledge of medical terminology and exercises judgment or decision-making to provide secretarial and clerical services, in support of professional/medical personnel, including: booking patients; light transcriptions; providing word processing/typing services for assigned personnel; assisting with research drafting; performing reception responsibilities; maintaining written and/or electronic calendar/schedules; administering and monitoring billing procedures and budgeting records; providing support with small and/or informal meetings/events; maintaining and modifying confidential medical electronic/paper filing/retrieval methods, systems, and/or formats; providing functional supervision to lower classified clerical position(s); ensuring the efficient operation of the office; performing other related clerical activities; performing cross-functional responsibilities, as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent
- Completion of recognized medical office administration program at the diploma level or equivalent
- Completion of a medical terminology course
- Minimum of three (3) years experience as an administrative assistant is required
- Previous on-the-job computer/word-processing, database and spreadsheet software experience, in a Microsoft Office Environment
- Previous experience working in digital and paperless office preferred
- OHIP billing preferred
- Very good command of medical terminology
- Very good interpersonal and customer service skills
- Good organization and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Experience working in a health care environment preferred
- Experience working in a teaching hospital environment preferred
- Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and standards
