WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Reporting to the Team Lead, Student Success and Counselling Services, the Academic Access Coordinator is a full-time permanent position supporting St. Mary’s University’s commitment to provide an accessible learning experience for all students.

This position requires the ability to interpret documentation provided by students, and effective collaboration with academic departments and student services to achieve the best outcomes for students.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

- Coordinate Academic Accommodations for students with disabilities. Conduct intake meetings for registered and prospective students with disabilities, collect and assess disability documentation, discuss disability related impacts, determine an accommodation plan that addresses those impacts, confer with faculty as required to ensure that the accommodation plans are appropriate in the context of the course or learning environment.
- Coordinate the provision of services, technology and other necessary supports required for students with disabilities.
- Issue accommodation letters to students and provide accommodation requests to faculty.
- Support students in the use of assistive technology and software
- Coordinate and proctor accommodated exams as required.
- Support academic achievement for students at StMU with individual and small group instruction on academic skills and habits to foster self-efficacy and independence.
- Collaborate to support academic pathways, First Year Experience, and Early Alert interventions and other student success initiatives on campus, participate in disability and student success related committee work.
- Maintain documentation of the accommodation process, student success initiatives, and assessment of services.
- Contribute to internal and external reporting.
- Adhere to PIPA and FOIP standards of privacy: must complete FOIP/PIPA training within a month of hire.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:

- Experience working in a postsecondary education environment with students with disabilities in the roles of accessibility advisor, assistive technologist and/or academic strategist.
- A degree in psychology, social work, education or related field with applicable experience.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
- Able to build constructive professional relationships with faculty, staff and students.
- Knowledge of the documentation requirements for students with disability and the ability to assess and interpret documentation to implement effective accommodation plans for students.
- Knowledge of assistive technology, computers, tablets and hand-held devices, and software (Read&Write)
- Excellent organization, communication, and documentation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including database software.
- Ability to promote, or at least respect, the institution’s Catholic mission and identity
- Ability to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as Truth and Reconciliation.
