THE ROLE
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for assisting the Finance Team with various duties and responsibilities across all areas of the department. This position will be responsible for performing general accounting duties and reports directly to the Director of Finance. This is an excellent role for a self-starter who has strong organizational skills and works in a logical and methodical manner
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Preparing cheques for deposit including: sorting mail, looking up client for appropriate coding, ensuring there is a balance to be paid, or getting clarification if there is not
- Following up on required information for e-transfers (passwords, ensuring transaction is billed in the system etc.)
- Bank reconciliations
- Tracking the status of expected payments from premium finance companies, transferring client balances from the client to the premium finance company once payment confirmed
- Direct bill commission deposits
- Data entry of cash disbursements (both operating expenses and trust account disbursements)
- Administration of insurance company payments including: preparing cheques and statements for distribution to insurers & putting in the courier
- Data entry of journal entries, credit card expenses / statements, expense reports
- Distribution of insurance company discrepancies to the applicable service team
- Clearpay administration - keep list of insurance companies current within Clearpay (system used to manage electronic payments to underwriters)
- Direct bill reconciliations - reconciling discrepancies between insurance company statement and Lloyd Sadd transactions for direct billed policies
- Filing - box up prior year files for storage, create all applicable file folders, creating labels and other sorting tasks as assigned
- Running AR, expiration, “no transaction” reports for aide in AR collections
- Other duties and projects as required.

- Managing insurance contracts with various insurers
- Obtaining new insurance contracts for advisors as required
- Assisting in the formulation of correspondence to vendors and clients
- Preparing reports and internal communications
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Diploma or Certificate in Accounting
- Bookkeeping, Accounts Receivables & Account Payables experience considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years’ of accounting experience preferred
- Knowledge of accepted accounting principles
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- The ability to keep sensitive information confidential
- Must be approachable and helpful
