Volunteer Coordinator - Pathways to Education Program

**Salary**: $23.50/hour

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, negotiable Start Date: As soon as possible

Position Overview: Pathways to Education plays an important role in developing confidence and building resiliency with young people in the Spryfield area. Pathways strengthens the community by lowering highschool dropout rates and increasing post-secondary education access among disadvantage youth. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator will play an essential role in coordinating volunteers, placement students, and nutrition requirements to successfully run the Pathways to Education Program. Chebucto Connections is a learning organization and is open to innovative ideas on how we share our work and serve more people.

Qualifications:

- Detailed oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills, written and presentation skills.
- Relevant combination of experience and Post-Secondary in education
- Computer proficiency is required, particularly Microsoft Office and comfortable working with databases
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to thoughtfully and effectively communicate with staff, volunteers and the public
- Knowledge of community and social service resources that support youth and families is an asset
- Food handlers certification is an asset

Demonstrated Skills:

- Understanding of the strengths, capacities, challenges and barriers faced by youth today
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to work in a manner that preserves confidentiality, dignity and well-being
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Exceptionally organized with the ability to handle numerous projects at the same time

Job Duties
- Recruit, train, orientate and coordinate volunteers and student work placements
- Develop/Identify creative and supportive projects that align with placement students learning goals
- Support the integration of volunteers within the program so that experiences are meaningful and beneficial to everyone
- Develop and maintain relationships with universities, community colleges, course instructors and service learning coordinators
- Supervise, advise and evaluate placement students; liaising with practicum coordinators
- Participate in awareness building and recruitment geared events ie. University fairs, public speaking engagements, class visits, information sessions for universities and colleges
- Responsible for the delivery of the afterschool healthy snacks. Coordinating volunteers to prepare snacks following healthy food guidelines with a great understanding of food inclusivity and accessibility
- Organize and monitor annual food safety training for staff and volunteers
- Maintain and implement organizational policies
