**Who We Are**
The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

**Position Overview**
We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day finance and accounting operations of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB). This role is ideal for a recently qualified CPA or someone ready to take the next step from a senior accountant position. If you thrive on tackling daily accounting tasks, improving workflows, and finding inefficiencies, this is the opportunity for you.
The Accounting Manager will oversee key financial processes, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and continuously seek ways to improve our systems. This is a role for someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, dive into reconciliations, and streamline processes. Experience in nonprofit accounting is an asset, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with the drive to make an impact.
**Key responsibilities**
Day-to-day Accounting
- Manage daily accounting operations, including reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end processes.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, laws, and regulations.
- Take ownership of payroll preparation, ensuring compliance with BC employment standards.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and analyze financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
- Analyze financial data to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and manual processes; recommend and implement improvements.
- Update and improve spreadsheets, templates, and reporting tools.
- Proactively develop workflows and policies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Work closely with the Director of Finance & IT on budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
- Partner with other departments to ensure proper allocation of funds and resolve issues.
- Train and coach staff on financial policies and systems.
- Manages and maintains positive relationships with external stakeholders and partners, such as financial institutions, vendors, and insurance companies.
- Supports, manages, and coaches direct reports in the Finance & IT department.
Audit and Compliance
- Lead the preparation of year-end audit files.
- Oversee internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
Projects
- Assist with larger projects, including technology upgrades and system implementations.
- Act as a key contributor to cross-departmental initiatives and reporting needs.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & IT.
