**JOB PURPOSE**:
The Service Writer helps keep everything in line within the service department. From scheduling, work orders to connecting with customers and technicians to get the work done, the service department runs smoothly because of this critical role. You will be required to act as a liaison between the customer, Service, Parts and Sales Departments.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Welcome customers and visitors in a timely, professional and friendly manner both in person and on the phone and obtain as much information about the customer and vehicle data before their arrival.
- Explain all estimated costs to the customer in as much detail as necessary prior to repairs.
- Verify the customer’s method of payment before the required repairs begin. Direct them to the Credit department to arrange credit approval, if necessary.
- Ensure accuracy of customer data in our computer system.
- Obtain, verify and double check that you have the correct truck/vehicle serial/VIN number, mileage, company, contact names and phone numbers on all required documents.
- Opens work orders as directed by the Shop Foreman and maintains control until they are reviewed, closed and invoiced
- Ensure RO's are completed and closed within 3 days of work being completed
- Entering completed RO’s into third party platforms for payment as required by specific customers
- Communication with Shop Foreman on pertinent RO information and updates
- File repair orders as required.
- Fields internal and external customer inquiries to the Service Department
- Cleaning of trucks, removal of decals and any other miscellaneous shop duties as assigned by the Manager.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ABILITIES**:

- Required to perform work inside and outside, in all-weather situations, at the shop division location.
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, balancing, bending or stooping for prolonged periods of time.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate by providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.
- Normal range of hearing and vision.

**REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS**:

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Heavy and medium duty truck industry experience is a plus.
- Ability to multi-task and work successfully in a fast paced environment.
- Must be able to work in a high pressure environment safely
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to present yourself in a positive, professional manner to colleagues and customers
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, customers and the general public

**Salary**: $23.00-$25.00 per hour

Supplemental pay types:

- Red Deer, AB T4P 3R3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- service writer: 1 year (preferred)
- Customer service: 1 year (preferred)
