**Hours**: 8:30 am to 5:00pm. Some evenings and weekends. 40 hours per week

**Accountability**:Program Director

**Function**: The Special Projects Assistant will support the planning and coordination of programs, assist with the organization and execution of the summer camp program and fundraising gala, and help with the day-to-day operations of Community Centre 55.

Status: Temporary, Contract (March 31, 2025 to December 19, 2025)

**PURPOSE & MANDATE**:
Community Centre 55, otherwise known as Centre 55, is an agency of the City of Toronto and a registered charity serving the Beaches-East York community since 1975. Centre 55 offers a variety of adult educational and recreational programs and is a multi-site licensed child care provider serving the needs of families with children ages 18 months to 13 years.

Centre 55 also runs a very popular summer camp program for children aged 5 to 12 years old; it is the lead organizer of the Beaches Santa Claus Parade; and has a long-standing Share A Christmas program, which donates grocery gift cards and unwrapped toys to local families in need.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assist in the coordination of camp counselors, assistant camp directors, and camp director training to ensure high-quality programming and effective staff performance
- Collaborate with the Program Director to create weekly staffing schedules and provide operational support to ensure proper coverage
- Help plan and prepare engaging and diverse Day Camp activities and themes for each week, fostering a fun and educational environment for campers.
- Develop activity plans for transitional periods (e.g., breaks or downtime) and adapt for rainy days to maintain a positive camp experience
- Coordinate the rotation and timing of daily activities to ensure they run smoothly and on schedule
- Assist with setup and teardown of camp activities, working closely with support staff and volunteers to ensure a smooth operation
- Manage the inventory of camp supplies (e.g., arts and crafts materials, sports equipment), ensuring items are replenished and maintained regularly.
- Assist in coordinating and delivering the Counselor in Training (CIT) program, including recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of participants.
- Assist in the planning, development, delivery, and ongoing support for a broad range of community, social, educational and recreational programs at Centre 55
- Keep camp parents well informed of the program activities.
- Serves visitors to Community Centre 55 by greeting, welcoming and directing them; notifying centre personnel of visitor’s arrival; maintaining security and telecommunications.
- Assist in answering and screening incoming telephone calls to Community Centre 55. Provides information and referral, takes messages, and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Assist in securing Gala sponsorships by conducting outreach and relationship-building activities with potential corporate and individual donors to help meet sponsorship goals
- Assist in sourcing and organizing Gala auction items, both for the silent and live auctions, ensuring high-quality items are secured for the event
- Help in sending personalized thank-you notes to Gala sponsors and donors, providing updates on the impact of their contributions, and contributing to the cultivation of future support
- Assist with set up and tear down of ongoing events at Community Centre 55
- Other duties as assigned by management

**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A diploma or degree in community development, social work, public administration, sociology, or a related field is preferred
- Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with participants, volunteers, parents, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team, demonstrating flexibility and initiative
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a high level of energy and motivation to help others
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in dynamic or high-pressure situations
- Comfortable engaging with new people and speaking confidently in small group settings
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with a proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities
- Previous experience working with children, youth, or in community program settings is an asset
