**School & Youth Outreach Coordinator**

**One Year Contract**

This one-year contract position at 37.5 hours per week is responsible for the administrative support and execution of our school programs and events.

The focus is to develop sport programs for Black youth in the two communities of Toronto and Brampton. The emphasis is through hosting a variety of school based events and activities along with a concentrated partnership development plan that connects Special Olympics to the Black community networks and key stakeholders that provide a supportive and advocacy role for Black youth.

**About the Role**

As the work over the year is focused on building opportunities for Black youth the strategy is linked through our school program model.

The School & Youth Outreach Coordinator is responsible for administrative, logístical, operational, and hands-on event support for the following School and Youth Events.
- **SOO Sports Festivals (Elementary Schools) - students aged 2-13**These single-day sport and activity fun days are first contact events for students aged 2-13. They aim to introduce students and their educators to the Special Olympics movement in a fun and supportive environment. Students spend the morning engaged in group activities and spend the afternoon rotating through sports, activity, and wellness stations.
- **Intermediate Programs (Intermediate/Middle Schools) - students aged 11-14**These introductions to competition events provide an opportunity for athletes in middle school to prepare for their transition from the Sports Festival to the School Championships program. Athletes will be introduced to the basic concepts of teamwork and competition and given an opportunity to participate in a friendly scrimmage.
- **SOO School Championships Qualifiers - students aged 13-21**This program uniquely promotes sport training and competition opportunities to high school student athletes with intellectual disabilities, providing them with opportunities to compete and advance to the Special Olympics Ontario Provincial School Championships.
- **SOO School Competitions**Additional to our formal events outlined above, we also host and support a number of additional ancillary events and competitions each school year. This includes pilot sports to our program such as badminton and softball. Additionally, we also provide support and guidance to a number of events hosted by various school boards and the municipalities.
- **SOO Partnership Engagement Plan** - **community, stakeholders, families**
- Arising from the success of the school based activities, Special Olympics Ontario will focus on strengthening partnerships and organize various meetings and events with program stakeholders such as the Black community networks, local facilities, generic sports clubs, City Municipalities, SEAC and school boards, along with Toronto and Brampton’s universities/colleges.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Program Manager, School and Youth, this position will focus on Black athlete and volunteer recruitment in the schools of Brampton and Toronto. The worker will be responsible for the planning, execution, and post-event wrap up of school events and competitions.

Some responsibilities will include:

- Securing host facilities (local high schools, universities, community facilities)
- Forming and working alongside host committees for events
- Securing volunteers & officials
- Assist with outreach and advertisement of events to local schools
- Monitoring online registration of events and athlete and volunteer registrations
- Creating competition schedules
- Tracking event results (when applicable)
- Organizing, sorting, and tracking equipment
- Executing and coordinating day-of logistics for different types of events
- Involvement in the development, outreach, and piloting of new school programs
- Requires regular travel within Brampton and Toronto and from school to school
- Input on School and Youth program strategic discussions pertaining to target groups
- Active SOO representative at partnership/stakeholder meetings and events
- Other duties as assigned

- Experience working with youth and populations with a strong understanding of issues faced by marginalized groups
- Experience with school/community-based programming.
- Excellent teamwork, networking, and partnership development skills

**Project focused**:

- Ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities, including project planning, partnership building, group facilitation and day-to-day oversight and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated experience as an effective team/project leader and ability to implement
