Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director Business Development, the incumbent will join the HBHL/NeuroSphere Business Development team to promote initiatives that target innovation and entrepreneurship. These initiatives complement HBHL funding programs that aim at accelerating early technology maturation in the area of neuroscience and assist promising projects to move towards commercialization. The NeuroSphere team also works to support the creation of a dynamic entrepreneurship ecosystem in neuroscience and neuroinformatics.

The Program Officer (HBHL) will be responsible for the implementation of initiatives that allow both faculty members and trainees involved in neuroscience at McGill to develop skills, expertise and experience related to innovation and entrepreneurship. The Program Officer (HBHL) will build on existing collaborations to offer workshops, webinars and programs, as well as propose and lead new initiatives. In addition, the Program Officer (HBHL) will be responsible for the creation and organization of in-person networking events focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, at times in collaboration with partners. The Program Officer (HBHL) will also work closely with the Training and Equity Advisor (HBHL) to coordinate relevant initiatives. The Program Officer (HBHL) will finally be responsible for managing administrative tasks related to the previously described initiatives and related to the business development activities of the NeuroSphere team.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Identify the needs of the McGill neuroscience research community in terms of support to innovation and entrepreneurship, through liaising with the community as well as benchmarking with other institutions to make recommendations for comprehensive and targeted initiatives.
- Lead and participate in the organization of new initiatives (in-person events, webinars, workshops, training programs, etc.). Oversee the organization of in-person events and organize logistics for training and special events including invitations, room bookings and catering orders as appropriate.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the portfolio of initiatives related to innovation and entrepreneurship and work in collaboration with the HBHL communication team to update and maintain the NeuroShpere website.
- Promote the HBHL offer to McGill’s neuroscience research community through HBHL communication channels and in-person communications in order to generate interest and participation.
- Responsible for sending and tracking satisfaction surveys to assess the quality of the initiatives offered by NeuroSphere.
- Responsible for processing payments to external vendors and maintaining updated records of invoices and receipts by requesting purchase orders (POs) through the McGill Market Place (MMP). Responsible for requesting the creation of new vendor profiles.
- Arrange and coordinate travel and accommodation for staff in connection with NeuroSphere business and prepare and submits expense reports as requested.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field with three (3) years’ related experience in training program management, preferably within a university. Proven record of accomplishment of success in the management of programs, preferably within a university. Experience or background in the areas of Neuroscience, Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Medical devices and related areas is a strong asset. Experience in the creation and organization of in-person networking events, ideally in a context focused on innovation and entrepreneurship (strong asset). Excellent writing skills with an ability to develop coherent and well-structured program proposals including budgets and timelines. Must be agile, adaptable, and responsive to changes and feedback from internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to effectively manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timelines. Ability to work autonomously and collaborate with key stakeholders to reach set objectives. The ability to follow up on initial meetings with collaborators in a timely fashion to ensure sustained program development. Strong analytical skills. Proficient with MS Office and comfortable with technology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in both French and English. Experience with McGill internal systems, such as Banner (FIS) and Minerva, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is an asset.
