Our resort is not owned or operated by a large ski conglomerate; rather by a bunch of local skiers and riders who are passionate about steep terrain and great snow. Operational decisions are made here (head office = the basement of the day lodge) and our long-term direction is plotted by a group of passionate, volunteer directors who represent more than 200, predominately local shareholders.
**About The Position***:
The Snow Making & Grooming Manager, under the direction of the Outside Operations Manager, is primarily responsible for managing a team of operators in the Snow Making and Grooming Department. This individual will schedule all employees per budgeted guidelines and post employee schedules according to departmental guidelines. As a working manager position, the Snow Making and Grooming Manager is also responsible to perform grooming of the slopes and trails using tracked Snowcats and perform light routine maintenance on those machines. The manager will be able operate all the grooming equipment in a safe, effective, and consistent manner.

**Job Duties**:
- Manage all operators in the Grooming Department and Snow Making Department.
- Ensure recruitment/onboarding/orientation activities are done with an intentional focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Schedule all employees per budgeted guidelines and post employee schedules according to departmental guidelines.
- Perform and be accountable for safe slope grooming at night, sometimes in adverse weather conditions on rough, uneven and steep terrain.
- Assist in loading and unloading of goods when machines are used for transport.
- Perform inspections of Snowcat machines on a daily basis and report unusual sights or sounds that may indicate a mechanical malfunction.
- Perform light maintenance of grooming equipment and implements.
- Provide feedback to operators, other direct reports, and other departments regarding snow and trail conditions, any hazards that may have been left, or mechanical problems.
- Monitor operational performance of the Snow Grooming and Snow Making departments through observation, coaching, providing feedback, guiding, and directing team members to achieve established goals and objectives.
- Supervise all tasks involved with snowmaking.
- Ensure department staff receive required training.
- Take corrective or disciplinary action, in conjunction with human resources, to address employee behaviour or performance issues, when needed.
- Ensure all applicable safety standards are upheld at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Requirements**:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Snowcat operator in a ski area environment.
- Experience and understanding with Snowmaking operations required.
- Experience working and travelling in Avalanche Terrain would be an asset.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial position is an asset.
- Advanced skier/snowboarder
- Valid driver’s license
- English language skills.
- Knowledge of CMR terrain is an asset.
- Positive and proactive approach to teamwork and working with others required.
- Ability to effectively lead and develop employees into a cohesive team.
- Ability to supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Self-motivated, responsible and willing to learn.
- Mechanical aptitude preferred
**Work Conditions**:
- Manual dexterity required to use heavy equipment and hand tools.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 kg.
- Outdoor work in extreme winter conditions.
- Weekend, holiday, and overnight shifts may be required.
- Own accommodation is required for managers and supervisors either on-site or in a nearby town

Castle Mountain Resort is located at the end of Highway 774, near Pincher Creek, AB. This is a remote work location with no mobile coverage or public transit.
