**Position Overview**:
These positions are responsible for undertaking and completing legal matters as required by City staff, Council, and the Executive Director of Legal Services and Corporation Counsel. This position is also responsible for ensuring maximum achievement of Corporation's goals and minimizing legal liability of the City while carrying out assigned duties.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Deputy Corporation Counsel - Planning, Development & Real Estate Practice Group:
- Providing legal representation and strategic advice to City departments and Council as required, as a member of the of Planning, Development & Real Estate team (1 Deputy Corporation Counsel, 1 Solicitor - Real Estate, 2 Solicitor Planning & Development and 1 Senior Law Clerk.
- Primary client contacts include staff in Community Planning.
- Attends meetings of staff and/or elected officials, including standing committees to present reports as assigned by the Deputy Corporation Counsel. Attends other senior staff meeting as required.
- Provides legal representation on behalf of the Corporation at land and development related proceedings and hearings before the Ontario Lands Tribunal, Courts, Boards and Committees, including all related preparation.
- May assist with the negotiation and preparation of development related documents including Development Charge By-laws, Community Benefit Agreements, Minutes of Settlement and other development related agreements to ensure legal validity and protect the Corporation.
- Provides planning and development legal advice to City departments and Council on an on-going basis. Attends meetings of staff and/or elected officials, including standing committees, to provide legal advice and present reports, as assigned.
- Undertakes or may supervise a senior law clerk in undertaking the preparation of documents related to the Planning, Development & Real Estate Portfolio.
- Monitors relevant changes to related legislation as well as case law, to ensure that the Corporation has up-to-date information to act upon.
- Participates on inter-departmental and corporate teams reviewing issues of legal and corporate interest, as assigned.
- Works with staff to ensure that the City’s legal risks are minimized.
**Requirements**:
- Post Graduate degree in law (LLB or JD) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Minimum 3 years legal practice. Experience in providing legal advice on planning related issues and direct experience in litigating at the Ontario Lands Tribunal is required.
- Occasional non-office site visits required. Attendance at evening meetings may be required.
