**POSITION**: Communications Officer II - Information Governance

**Primary Function**:
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Communications Officer II within the Health and Social Development Secretariat (HSDS). The successful applicant will be responsible for meeting the internal and external communication needs of the Information governance unit of the HSDS. Specifically, this individual assists in the development and implementation of communication strategies that positively impact the First Nation leadership, communities, and the public in accordance with the spirit and intent of the Treaties of the FSIN Treaty Agenda.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Strategic Communications**
- Assists in the development or update of effective and efficient communication strategies aimed at ensuring the Information Governance communication objectives are met and are in accordance with Communication/Public Affairs industry standards.

**Writing**
- Assists in the development, writing and implementation of communication strategies, Assembly/Portfolio reports/articles and other documents as required
- Assists in the development, writing and implementation of Information Governance related advertising and education documents such as, brochures, posters, videos, and general information regarding Information Governance
- Creates and maintains an Information Governance Communications strategic document and database of all communications to each specific audience.

**Research**
- Assist in the research and development of strategic communication initiatives for Information Governance
- Responsible for assisting the Information Governance staff and/or HSDS staff in the development and implementation of polling/surveying/focus groups, etc.

**Website**
- Works with the FSIN Communication Officer to share Information Governance media/news on the FSIN website with prior approval

**Media Relations**
- Assists in the development of media releases, backgrounders and media advisories if required

**Special Event Coordinating**
- Assists Information Governance Unit, Communications Unit and FSIN staff in the development and organizing of FSIN Assemblies, conferences, conventions, symposiums, pow wows, sporting events or any special event organized/sponsored by the FSIN

**Administration**
- Responsible for following FSIN administrative guidelines which also includes developing and maintaining appropriate files related to work and assignments
- Responsible for maintaining his/her own records with respect to hours worked, expenses, etc. in accordance with FSIN policies/procedures/regulations, etc.

**Communications/Relationship Building**
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with the FSIN Executive, senior management/staff as well as First Nation Chiefs/Councilors and Tribal Council Representatives
- Positive relationship must also be developed and maintained with the media and public

**Other**
- Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**
- Bachelor’s Degree or related certificate in journalism, communications or public affairs.

**Experience**
- Minimum of two (2) years in journalism or communications/public relations fields.
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, Teams, and Internet.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, culture, and history.
