**Cowichan Hospice House Volunteer Program Coordinator**
For 40 years Cowichan Hospice has served families facing end of life and bereavement in the Cowichan Valley Regional District, across the unceded traditional ancestral territories of the Quw’utsun, Stz’uminus, Halalt, Lyackson, Penelukut, Ts’uubaa-asatx, Ditidaht and Malahat people.

We collaborate to offer safe, accessible, inclusive, equitable and high quality care that meets the diverse physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs of our clients and their chosen family in a respectful and caring environment.
Psycho-social care is an essential part of hospice palliative care at the end of life. Our caring and committed staff and volunteers provide peer companioning, support and information for those living with advancing illness and their families and for those grieving a death. Volunteer services are the heart of Cowichan Hospice programs.
**You will**:
- Coordinate the Cowichan Hospice volunteer program as part of whole-person care (physical, emotional, social & spiritual) at Cowichan Hospice House. This will include scheduling, data entry, general administration, regular meetings, debriefing, training, onboarding new volunteers, and ongoing support (supervision, evaluation and related tasks).
- Collaborate with the Hospice House team, consisting of Island health staff (nursing team, support staff, site manager and Island health Palliative and End of Life Care leaders, Facilities and Maintenance, etc.) and Cowichan Hospice Society volunteers to ensure collaborative integrated service delivery.
- Work with appropriate Cowichan Hospice Society staff and volunteers to enhance and support existing programs, in community and at Hospice House, as opportunities arise.
- Continuously and proactively enhance a home-like atmosphere by tidying and organizing family areas (janitorial care is provided by Island Health), and maintaining and acquiring comfort supplies.
- As required, provide emotional, practical, and spiritual support to patients and family/friends.
**You have**:
- **Related experience in**:
- Supervision and evaluation of human service staff or volunteers (experienced in employee/volunteer recognition, engagement, scheduling, navigating complex dynamics, conflict resolution are a must)
- Program coordination
- Counselling
- Experience supporting people living with serious illness or grief
- Educational background in human resource management, education, social work, counselling, volunteer management or similar
- Proven ability to train, supervise and manage human-service staff or volunteers from diverse backgrounds who bring a wide variety of skills and capacity for work with clients
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills
- Competence with Office Suite (Word & Excel), Google programs and, willing to learn to use new tools such as InfoAnywhere, the hospice client database program
- Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working as part of a collaborative team with partners from a variety of disciplines

**Reports to**: Executive Director
**Hours**:30-35 hours a week
**Wages**:$ 30-32/ hour plus extended benefits, up to 3% matching RRSP contribution upon successful completion of third month of probation. (Precise hourly rate will be determined based on skills and experience).
**Vacation**:6%
