**Become part of our collaborative team at CTRA Since 1986, Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association (CTRA) has been a registered non-profit organization offering therapeutic riding and equine-based wellness programs in the Cowichan Valley. As a Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association accredited exam and training centre, CTRA provides programs for individuals with diverse abilities in an environment of inclusivity and opportunity.**

We are currently looking to fill the position of our weekend Barn Staff lead hand. This is a weekend position that could include casual work during the week.

**PURPOSE**: Fulfill a leadership role in performing all daily feeding routines, turnout and bring in, barn cleaning and any general horse care duties. Maintaining outdoor paddocks in a safe clean condition.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Collaborate with weekday Lead Hand and Executive Director on the management of all aspects involving the care and use of CTRA horse herd.
- Complete stable management duties including feeding, mucking stalls, paddocks, turn in/out, and general stable maintenance.
- Ensure all special care and diet routines outlined for horses are carried out in accordance with the directions of management.
- Maintain and clean facility equipment and areas including, but not limited to, feed rooms, stalls, aisles, arena, paddocks, walkways, loft areas, tack room, storage room, rider’s lounge, and washroom area.
- Ensure the health and well-being of all horses within the herd.
- Assist with program and horse related events, workshops, or clinics as requested by the Lead Hand or Executive Director
- Participate in special events such as training, fundraisers, appreciation events, and the open house.
- Act as a representative of CTRA when dealing with clients, participants, and volunteers that frequent the barn.
- Supervision and training of barn volunteers at the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator
- Supervision and training of new barn staff members
- Keep daily journal up to date.
- Work with the CTRA team to maintain a clean office and bathroom in the upstairs area.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must have pervious barn work experience.
- Must be knowledgeable in horse care, grooming and tacking.
- Experience in a supervision role an asset.
- Previous riding and barn worker experience an asset.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- Must be able to do manual work and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Interest in learning and collaborating with a team
