Assistant Controller

On behalf of our client, Siemens Transportation Group Inc, we are searching for a Assistant Controller to join their team in Saskatoon, SK. Working closely with the Director of Finance and Controller, the Assistant Controller will be an integral part of the Finance Department. The Assistant Controller will hold a pivotal role in scrutinizing and interpreting data, steering business decisions, and enhancing operational effectiveness within the transportation sector.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Conduct thorough analysis of operational data, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for enhancement.
- Develop and maintain reports, and KPls for tracking critical performance metrics.
- Furnish regular and ad-hoc reports to management and stakeholders.
Forecasting and Demand Planning:
- Leverage historical data and industry trends to generate precise forecasts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to synchronize operations with projected demand.
Process Optimization:
- Scrutinize current processes and workflows, pinpointing areas for improvement and implementing efficiency-boosting solutions.
- Provide recommendations for process refinement and automation.
- Assist with the management of accounting, auditing, and budgeting.
Financial Analysis:
- Aid in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting initiatives.
- Ensure that the Finance department attains its quarterly goals and objectives.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Oversee adherence to industry regulations and company policies.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks pertaining to operations and data management.
- Ensure compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Work collaboratively with team members and ensure processes and controls are effective.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Financial Records and Statements:
- Maintain accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review financial statements; ensure variances are analyzed and investigated.
- Assist with preparation of annual audit working papers.
Technology and Systems:
- Participate in the implementation of software upgrades.
**Skills & Qualifications**:
- University Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- CPA designation or working towards designation.
- Three or more years of experience in a senior accounting role in a corporate environment.
- Experience with computer software programs, including accounting packages and PC based spreadsheet/work processing packages in a Windows environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
