The Supervisor/Keyholder is responsible for the general day-to-day operation of the retail store and lumber yard as assigned by the Store Manager, Lumber Yard Manager or General Manager. These duties consist of supervising staff, serving as a Duty Manager in the absence of a Manager, helping to meet sales and financial objectives, promotional planning, working on special projects, merchandising, pricing and facilitating communications between senior leadership and employees.

**DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Leadership:_
- Provide guidance and supervision to employees as directed by the Senior Leadership team. Follow-up on, and assign, tasks/duties to associates in an effort to achieve storewide goals and drive productivity/accountability
- Walk the building on a regular basis to ensure people are on-task, acting in accordance with policies, demonstrating proper safety protocols, etc. both inside the store and in the Yard
- Serve as a duty manager, professionally addressing customer and employee issues/concerns, making pricing and mark-down decisions in a manner that aligns with the interests of the business, ensuring building security and safety, and taking charge in emergency situations.
- Address absenteeism and take action to ensure proper staffing/coverage
- Be a positive role model and example of integrity by following, and championing, company procedures/profitability
- Facilitate and maintain communication between employees and the Senior Leadership team. Encourage employees to share their ideas/suggestions, resolve employee complaints and problems.
- Be responsive to employees who have questions and/or comments about their job responsibilities.
- Take appropriate disciplinary action when employees violate company rules and/or policies.
- Managing the store’s security alarm system, including ensuring it’s in perfect condition, enabling it, and disabling it,when necessary.
- Take action to protect/maintain discretion of private information that the keyholder team may be privy to, including, but not limited to: security alarm codes, retail costs and vendor terms, associate and customer information, business strategies, financial details, etc.
- Making sure that the store and yard are always clean and properly organized.
- Store Operations:_
- Ensure adherence to daily procedures and policies, including, but not limited to: opening/closing, vault procedures, cash/returns/override policies, loss prevention, safety and building security, equipment maintenance, pricing, etc.
- Ensure that store fixtures, trucks, the POS system, and other equipment are in proper condition to meet the store’s operational needs.
- Make suggestions to the Store Manager when equipment should be replaced.
- Identify current or foreseen operating situations and inform the Store Manager in a timely manner to facilitate a solution.
- Suggest rule or policy changes to the Store Manager when such changes would improve efficiency, morale, operations, profits, sales, etc.
- Be aware of shoplifting and take action consistent with company policy to discourage it.
- Maintain good customer service through your presence on the sales floor by making effective use of your knowledge of products, projects, and services. Greet and assist customers on the sales floor or in the lumber yard. Set a good example for other employees through your ability and desire to assist customers and to maximize sales.
- Resolve customer claims and/or complaints in a manner that is timely, courteous, and discreet.
- Authorize credit limits, acceptance of cheques, etc. in a manner consistent with company policy.
- In the absence of a Manager, exercise sound judgment in the event that a departure from store policy may be required.
- Understand the POS system and procedures related to purchases and payments.
- General:_
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required
- Work on additional duties, special projects and assignments as assigned by the Store Manager, Lumber Yard Manager or General Manager
- Always maintain professional demeanor and behave in a manner befitting company policy and expectations
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**:

- At least two years of retail experience.
- Proven ability to respectfully lead/influence others.
- Working knowledge of building materials, receiving, logistics, storage, shipping, tracking, and customer service is required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
- Strong understanding of conversions of units of measure. Strong reading and comprehension of written and printed materials, including information presented in numerical form, square feet, board ft, linear and fractions
