**Job Description**:
Purpose of Position

To conduct pension investment risk analysis, plan sponsor credit analysis, research and provide technical support to the Pension Investment Risk team to operationalize and enhance FSRA’s prudential supervision of pension plans.
- Key Responsibilities
- Pension Investment Risk Monitoring
- Undertakes the development, implementation and update of criteria used to screen, detect, and flag pension plans with potentially high investment risks.
- Assists in conducting detailed reviews of the "flagged" high-risk pension plans, including actively monitored pension plans, taking into considerations all possible aspects of asset management (e.g., fund governance, investment policies, asset allocation, portfolio construction, performance attribution, and risk management) to determine the probability and severity of investment risks and non-compliance situations.
- Assists with the engagement process with pension plans as it relates to investment-related discussions.
- Assists in conducting analysis associated with deep-dive investment risk assessment and review of selected pension investment practices and monitors effectiveness of risk management, including but not limited to liquidity, investment, alternative assets, FX programs, use of leverages, credit, funding, operational and governance related to pension plans and their sponsors.
- Assists in the preparation of relevant review material and correspondence to the pension plans, senior management and the FSRA Board.
- Financial and Credit Analysis
- Assists and supports conducting financial and credit analysis of specific companies or sector of the economy, including regular production of related reports.
- Industry Outreach and Research
- Assists with various relevant CAPSA initiatives.
- Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- Graduate degree in commerce, accounting, business, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science or other relevant field.
- Completion of level 2 course of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation an asset or similar level of investment and financial knowledge.
- 5 - 7 years’ experience in undertaking financial risk management and measurement of pension plans or other financial institutions.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of and skills in concepts, tools, theories and principles broadly used in the investment profession (e.g., quantitative methods, economics) and analyzing and valuating investment in all asset classes (such as equity and fixed income securities) for risk associated with pension fund investment.
- Knowledge of and skills in finance/investment theory/ concepts, investment management, portfolio management, capital market products including derivatives, hedge funds, and other traditional/non-traditional investments to conduct investment reviews, analyze portfolios, and determine diversification and risk/return trade off.
- Knowledge of market, credit and operational risk for investment and pension funds.
- Knowledge of stress testing methodologies, financial modeling and data analytics for investment and pension funds.
- Knowledge of supervisory processes or regulatory requirements for pension plans, an asset.
- Research, analytical and quantitative skills to conduct investment risk assessment and review of selected pension investment practices.
- Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment, and in completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Written communication and presentation skills to prepare and present comprehensive risk analysis and assessment reports, issues and options.
